Sprint LG G3: No Internet Connection While On a Call?

Re: No Internet Connection While On a Call?

I'm on Rogers in Canada and they throttle the data connection down to nothing when you make a voice call, so it's basically useless. Kind of lame, but not a huge deal since I would rarely have need of data while I'm talking on the phone.

AT&T and T-Moblie run on the GSM standard.. That radio can do Voice and data at the same time. CDMA can only do Voice.. Or data... Not both at the same time. That is why they're having issues.

Yes that's correct. CDMA can't do both at the same time. When Sprint was using wimax for 4G it could handle both at the same time because it was using two different radios. Verizon was the same way, which is why AT&T used to run those adds about it years ago. I think the first phone Verizon had that was able to do both was the HTC Thunderbolt. Qualcom built the radio differently in order to get it to work.

This has not always been like this. I have Sprint and just switched from a S3 and with that phone, I could be on a call and also go on the internet. Now I have a S5 and that option is gone.... They need to announce these drawbacks before a customer signs up for a new phone. Paid $80.00 for my phone and 2 wks later Best Buy is selling them for $1.00.... Good thing I have a good sprint guy.. Got my money back, He was not aware of this new problem.. Have 90 days to trade in but the only option that will work is with a Iphone... But I refuse to be owned by Apple.

Re: No Internet Connection While On a Call?

My brother is on Sprint and always complains about the service. I've been trying to get him to leave and join T-mobile but he refuse cus he's being stubborn again. If you leave Sprint and join T-mobile, they'll pay your ETF in terms of credit but you gotta give up your phone too and buy one of theirs.

Unfortunately, here in the suburbs of the nation's capital, T-Mobile sucks worse than Sprint. According to Sensorly, and people I know with T-Mobile, there are total drop outs along major roadways in the area, and their signal in my two work locations is almost non-existent. I was seriously considering a switch to T-Mobile, butif they can't provide decent coverage around one of the most important cities in the world they're not usable for me.

And their coverage inside buildings has, and continues to be, a problem.

All Sprint phones going forward, known as Spark (tri-band LTE) phones don't support this anymore. Has been this way since the Nexus 5 and LG G2, their first crop of Spark tri-band LTE phones. Spark phones only have one "path" for both voice and data.
Sad thing about Spark phones is they can't even do voice and data even when on 4G LTE, only on WiFi, (which is why I'm still holding on to my 2013 Moto X).

Yes, the S3 was one of the last phones to do voice and data simultaneously on 3G. This is because they have separate paths for both data and voice, and they supported EVDV.

FYI, the Sprint iPhone 6 is a Spark compatible device, so you're in the same boat as the LG G3 (unless you're referring to the 5S).

Moved from Sprint galaxy s4 single band lte to galaxy s5 spark and lost the capability and yes I use this all of the time. So far loving my LG G3 on T-Mobile simultaneous voice and data. And I agree Sprint should tell us when they take away important services.

Re: No Internet Connection While On a Call?

I have had a mostly good experience with Sprint, recognizing that none of the companies are perfect. But Sprint has definitely improved my signal coverage and the coverage in places I travel this last year. I live in a rural area and get solid 4G at my home. My Dad's T-Mobile is flaky here. I suspect ATT & Verizon have good signal, not sure. I also very much like my ancient but Real unlimited data plan. Me and my five phone family don't tax that data plan much, but after some terrible surprises in bygone days with ATT, it's nice not to have to worry!

Re: No Internet Connection While On a Call?

I was able to do simultaneous voice & data while in Fort Lauderdale, FL about a week ago. Maybe it depends on the area?

Depends on the phone. The new LTE Tri band(Spark) has removed this capability unless you are on wifi but not wifi calling.
