Sprint Nexus 5 vs Google Play Edition

Can anyone answer if the sprint nexus 5 16gb is the same unit from the playstore? I am referring to the sprint galaxy nexus and that they had a unique build and the software updates had to go through the long tedious process testing. And if it is the same, would it be safe to assume the OS updates would be controlled by Google?

I got my Nexus 5 from the play store and yes the updates are controlled by Google for the Nexus line. (not saying in the case of Sprint)

The phone is the same, the only difference is the one from Sprint comes with the required sim card.

Yep, it is my understanding that EVERY Nexus 5 out there is the Google Play edition. They are ALL unlocked. Carriers will most likely just provide one with a SIM card for their network.
