Sprint Note 3: KitKat impressions, let's post them here.

Re: Kit Kat impressions, let's post them here.

Scrolling is much smoother and the gallery opens a lot quicker. I'm loving the update so far! 💕

Hi msndrstood, I also noticed a huge difference in the speed of gallery, also much quicker opening home screen folders, and exiting apps back to the home screen.

Everything is faster,, battery life is improved, Google wallet works, transition animation bug has been fixed. I'm happy.

From what I've read, the prevention notification problem has been fixed. That's good. Unfortunately the flaky Wi-Fi problem seems to remain. I just got the unstable Wi-Fi notification twice. *sigh* They seriously need to fix this. It's ridiculous for my Note 3 to be the only device in my house that thinks the Wi-Fi connection is unstable when the router is literally in the hall outside my door.

After I installed it my phone froze at the lock screen. Anything touch related wasn't working. I had to take my battery out to restart it. And now my phone seems kinda laggy

This happened to me as well after the update. After removing the battery and restarting two times I was finally able to enter my lockscreen password. Since then I have watched it randomly reboot TWO times just charging next to my computer. Touchscreen was once again unresponsive until battery removal.

What the hell did Samsung do here?

Re: Kit Kat impressions, let's post them here.

Rather rapid battery drain this morning -- after ~2.5 hours unplugged, about 20% battery power is gone. I tried a reboot, but it still dropped another ~3% in the few minutes I was playing with the phone. This is kind of strange, because I didn't see this kind of behavior yesterday. It only drained quickly when I was playing games or something. I haven't done much with the phone so far today though, and it already lost over 20% of its power? I hope this is some weird isolated incident, because it would stink to have to return to recharging my phone every afternoon just to make it through the day.

Edit: The fast battery drain was probably due to an app acting up, something getting stuck turned on, or something temporary like that. After the reboot mentioned above, I recharged, and unplugged when full. I've been using it a little bit, similar to earlier, and now it's drained ~12% in almost 6 hours. That's more like it. ;)

So far things are good on my end. I agree with others, phone is snapper. I learned a valuable lesson when I updated on my S3, to remove my Nova launcher as default and other personal default 3rd party programs before doing a huge update like this. I have put my Nova Prime launcher back up. Things still running smoothly. My only gripe is from the other kitkat videos, I don't see the huge dialer update. It's still like 4.3. Do I have to turn Google now back on to get it possibly? We did get the option to use hangouts as the default messaging, but I still prefer stock. Here's some screen shots of the few changes I saw to help out. 😊

Has anybody taken many pictures since the update? My camera seems to be incredibly slow now. And the processing takes longer. Kind of frustrating. I'm hoping it's just an early problem that will work itself out in a couple days.

Sorry, have no problem here on the stock camera app. Actually it's faster for me. But I still favorite camera Zoom over stock anyhow.

I agree, my camera has no lag. I still have camera zoom fx installed and switch between the two but have the stock camera set as default on the lock screen.

Mine at least is way slower in every way. Scrolling lag , typing lag , takes longer to get messages. The only thing that's not slower is battery drain. It drains way faster when the screen is on than before.

Have you tried clearing the cache partition? Do that first, if no luck do a factory reset. Most are experiencing just the opposite n mine included, had since launch, quicker in every way, battery life so far has been slightly better, same use, about 5% more battery left at charge time and my usage patterns are very consistent. Also make sure all of your apps are updated.

Re: Kit Kat impressions, let's post them here.

I just started having some problems copying files between my computer and phone using ES File Explorer after updating to KitKat. I thought it might be some kind of incompatibility between the app and OS that would need to be fixed with an app update, but then I saw articles like this one: External Blues: Google Has Brought Big Changes To SD Cards In KitKat, And Even Samsung Is Implementing Them. Now I'm not sure if there's anything we can do to get back the SD card behavior we're used to. My guess is that ways will be found for rooted users to get around this new restriction, but what about non-rooted users? Will we ever be able to go back to copying files between computer and phone via WiFi, or are we now permanently stuck using a USB cable for file transfers and management on our SD cards? Anyone happen to know or have more info on this? Thanks.

Re: Kit Kat impressions, let's post them here.

I've just noticed that the "Hi Galaxy" wakeup with the screen off isn't quite as smooth.

In 4.3, a "Hi Galaxy" would go straight to the S-voice screen. Now it goes lock screen>wallpaper>S-voice screen. The transition is very quick and not a big deal, just not as smooth as before.

I haven't tried over wifi yet, but wired, and through both the stock file manager and ES, it is working the same as on jelly bean for me. Is your problem only occurring over wifi?

Well, after shooting my mouth off for two days that I had no external SD card problems, I just discovered one, Camera FV5 will no longer save directly to external SD, I can move it after the fact, but this shows that some third party apps HAVE lost the ability to use external storage.
