Sprint Note 8 to Xfinity S10 plus

My daughter finally wanted to own her note 8. But because at the end of the lease I didn't select continue to pay for the phone for 6 more months to own, it automatically sent the phone into a month to month rental through Sprint.
NJ has a law now that after a phone reaches the 18 month lease agreement, it must be purchased that day or it must be signed up to continue leasing for the remaining 6 months to pay off the phone, or get this, you can upgrade.

Because they said I didn't check the box to continue leasing my daughter note 8, I will never be able to own this device and it must be returned since it's now in a month to month rental status until returned. Again I still can upgrade thought. Why would I do that with Sprint now.

I have until the 10th of April and it is on its way back.
If I didn't send it back, they would have charged me, this is the crazy part, $999.00 for failure to return phone.

NJ, Delaware, PA and about 8 other states have this law now.
So, pay really close attention to your Sprint leases in these States.

My days with Sprint our over. I got her the S10 plus which she fell in love with through Xfinity and no problems at all. But all the money I paid into leasing the note 8 GONE. I could have upgraded, but after that crap, I'm done with Sprint.
I can't even find a warning letter or an email about this.

But look for yourself the Law, I'll post it right here. It's a NJ legislated BS. look down below

I am only with Sprint currently out of necessity (lot of issues personally various things, etc). The first chance air can get to be rid of them, I will

The thing is my Sprint service has been great.
Plus this isn't a Sprint problem as much as it is a BS New Jersey legislative law. They don't even know why this law was written or even put into place.
Very sad. Now they want to control when you can buy a phone or upgrade.

So fellow Sprint owners of leased phones. Upgrade as soon as your lease is up, or buy the phone. Do not let the 18 month lease expire and you haven't selected whether you are going to purchase it or pay 6 more months to lease it to own it.
If you check nothing, Sprint will place the phone without telling you on a month to month rental until your next bill. Then you must return the phone or pay the ENTIRE 999.00 that you've been paying in the first place.

ridiculous

Oh Wow, I'm in NJ but Att and Tmobile

This is just a Sprint end of lease thing that the Nj government controls.

I went to Xfinity Mobile. My daughter will give them a shot for about a week, and since she's out of school she can determine if she wants to get the Note 9 or keep the S10 plus.

Devastating to have happen. I still don't know how this got past me. People in Reddit from those states with this issue, have the same problem. I was looking for a go around.
No one knows why, that's what concerns us all.

T-MOBILE was my next stop, lol.

T-MOBILE was by next stop, lol.

I'll keep my eye open on both my carriers.
