Sprint S4 - SPH-720 Lollipop

I am having the worst time updating to Lollipop. I too have a Sprint Galaxy s4, SPH-L720. The software has been downloaded to my phone at least four times. However when I attempt to install, each update has been aborted. The first error code I get is “/system/bin/ddexe” has unexpected contents
E:Error in /cache/update.zip
(Status 7)
I have no idea what is going on. Is it possible that the update will not install because my phone is rooted? I'm REALLY frustrated.

Yes. OTA does not work with rooted phones.

You can either flash back to stock with ODIN or try to find a rooted stock ROM.

Thanks for the reply Tom, but I'm not sure what it means to find a rooted stock ROM. I've read some pages regarding ODIN, and it appears to be more complicated than I can decipher. Can you direct me somewhere I can find instructions I can understand??

Flashing a ROM for the first time has a steep learning curve. ODIN is software the runs under Windows. I've used on my Mac under Parallels.

I know it takes a while to get OTA updates out, but this is ridiculous.

Still no OTA for 5.0.1 on my 2 S4s.

That suggests that they had enough problems to withdraw the update.

I decided to quit waiting for the OTA. Since I'm rooted, I did a factory reset to get back to stock.

I tried Kies. Got WMD_PROGRESS_CONTROLLER error. Didn't realize I had a WMD in there :)

I had problems with ODIN connecting. So I put aside the ODIN update to Lollipop.

Did another factory reset. Got an OTA notice. Thought I was home free - wrong.

Got an error when running the OTA update with messages about PolarisOffice5.apk in the cache and the installed app location. I my have nuked that app with Titanium Backup a while back. If that is the case a factory reset isn't that complete.

So now I keep getting the OTA update notice and it won't work.

Sigh. I'll take a week off and try the ODIN update again.
