As you can see in the Title I have a Sprint Samsung Galaxy S2(Epic 4G Touch) running Jellybean 4.2 and my battery is just straight . I only get about 5 hours off it. 2 hours of that (downloading, playing games, listening to music, checking email, all the normal things) is from constant use. I don't know how long everyone elses batteries have been lasting, but before I flashed Jellybean 4.2 I was getting a good 9 hours with 4 of it being constantly on doing the same things I normally do. So I guess my questions are 1. Any tips/pointers to get more battery life??? 2. How long has everyone elses battery been lasting??

I updated to the official Sprint / Samsung released Jelly Bean that came out last week, and I'm in the same boat. I get about 4 to 5 hours of battery before it does, and that's with it just sitting there with the screen off. I'm not sure what they did to cause the battery drain issues. I pulled my battery to see if it's damaged, but it's not so far. I'm concerned though. I may have to root / install a different rom just to make this phone usable again.

Try OS Monitors from the Play store - it may be a misbehaving app eating up your battery - check for high CPU usage. Also check the battery section in settings to determine battery hogs. There is also an app called Watchdog Lite that will alert you when an app continually uses CPU time over a certain threshold. Turn down your brightness to low and if you have root you can use Greenify. Other than that - you screen is the main battery hog and/or your battery is f*****.

I also did the official jelly bean update over the weekend and am also noticing a battery problem. I also have a Bluetooth issue that when I use Bluetooth it seems to be crashing the settings menu until I disable Bluetooth.

If all else fails, the standard fix for issues that begin after flashing a ROM update or doing a major OTA update is to do a factory reset. Painful, but sometimes necessary.

My battery usage is HORRIBLE since the update! I have a Seidio extended life battery. I've gone from around 20 hours on a charge on ICS to around 5. After spending the day reinstating my home screens after the update, I'd love to hear someone say that a factory reset fixed the problem before I devote another day. My Settings (when it isn't crashing) shows that the screen is by far the battery hog. I've turned down my screen from the way I like it and could use it freely with ICS, but it hasn't made a difference. Android System Info does not show any tasks using battery.

I'll never get why my phone can know how to bring up all my home screens, but there is no way to back them up. Every issue is a day lost. Not to mention: imagine if the multi-billion dollar Samsung could actually research the problem and fix it without requiring a reset. I'll bet anyone that a reset won't help.

I just flashed to the JB 4.1 update a couple days ago. I use the Galaxy SII through Virgin Mobile and now it seems that my battery is draining a lot faster than it did on ICS. Still searching for solutions.

A factory reset may be the generic answer, but be aware that this method doesn't always work all the time, though the problem correlates to leftover system files from the previous OS iteration causing the abnormally short battery life, which a factory reset may help with. If that doesn't work, it may merely be JB TouchWiz that's the problem.

This is the reason why I stick to AOSP ROMs: more android, less OEM and carrier bloatware.

I also have this problem, i downloaded Jellybean about a month ago, the battery problem is real & it sucks. I have JB 4.1.2 my battery doesn't rally last long . my phone automatically connects to my wifi.
i disable the wifi, press the power button to turn the screen off (not the phone) when i press the power button again to check the time or to unlock the phone, my wifi automatically turns on & it freaking bugs!
no wonder my phone takes HOURS to charge. (more than my iPad 3 WITH the 12w charger!) I installed the JB update before it was available on the boost website, i just got it from the samsung website. It installed with no problems, but something that i noticed was that, when my battery goes down, my LED indicator tuns pink! what's up with that?

Same here, I had to buy 2 more batteries and an external charger to keep my phone usable. All started with the latest update about a month ago. I need help too.

If you have to get practical, and just survive until the best tech fix comes along, I'd recommend just adding more power. Depending on your budget, these could make a big difference:

- Extended life batt,, 2600 mAh, about $28 New Samsung Epic 4G Touch sph d710 Extended Battery | Samsung Replacement Battery | Buy online at batteries4less.com
- External power pack, 3300 mAh, about $30, Samsung Spare Battery Packs | Samsung Epic 4G Touch sph d710 External Battery Pack
- External power pack, 6600 mAh, about $50, Samsung Spare Battery Packs | Samsung Epic 4G Touch sph d710 External Battery Pack
- External power pack, 12,000 mAh, about $80, Samsung Spare Battery Packs | Samsung Epic 4G Touch sph d710 External Battery Pack

Install wake lock detector and Greenify. Turn off sync. Set your wifi to go off 5 minutes after sleep. I done exactly this and my phone can sit two days on standby with plenty of battery left.

I had the exact same problem & then some when I updated to Jelly Bean 4.1.2. After the update I only got 3.5 hours of battery life (not hardly using it). Ultimately, I had to do a factory reset. Rebuilding email and apps after the resent is a pain, but I'm glad I did. After the reset, I'm getting around 8 hours of battery usage. Good luck.

I just force stopped android operating system in manage applications and battery life improved. I have an app called battery mix and noticed in the process portion of the app that Android operating system had spiked. The OS restarted immediately, but with improved battery life. This might be a temporary fix with the ultimate fix being factory reset, but I'll give it a few days and see what happens.

Update: So, the above worked for awhile, but didn't last. I did a hard reset, then wiped partition cache in recovery mode, then noticed after a few hours that battery life had returned to normal.
