Sprint to begin throttling 3g/4g data this summer?

Everyone needs to calm down.

There is far too little information to know if this even applies to the EVO. I would bet this will apply to those people who are NOT on the "premium" data plan.

I didn't read my contract, did you? Amazing how these carriers can come up w/ ways to maximize profits, and tread the thin line w/ their customers......man!

Sprint to begin throttling data this summer? -- Engadget

"You know the fine print of your EVO 4G contract that gives Sprint the right to limit throughput speeds without notice? Skipped past that part? Well, consider this your unofficial notice. If what we're reading above is accurate, then Sprint appears ready to introduce data throttling this summer. Where and how are the big questions. The image above received from a tipster appears to have been grabbed from Sprint's own "The Playbook," though we have no way of confirming that at this time. It certainly make sense though given T-Mobile USA's recent move away from overage charges in favor of throttling."

If this is true, I suspect it will only be for 3G in an effort to push more people to 4G. Clearwire has specifically stated they plan to have no caps for 4G because they have a lot more capacity than all other carriers.

Another possibility is they only cap those who don't have the Premium Data Package (the $10 EVO tax).

I would think it would only be 3G. I think sprint would only do it to ease congestion on the network if it comes down to it. I highly doubt their going to throttle the 4G.

x2 on Clear though, I have them at home and I wish I never would have. They throttle during peak times Ive noticed. Usually between 4pm-8pm. Sucks cause im 50 yards from a 4G tower.

If it is only going to be applied to everything below 4G/WiMax, I'd say it's more of a cost saving measure than a move to get more people to get a 4G phone. EVDO bandwidth costs a lot more for Sprint than WiMax bandwidth. 3G users and sometimes 2G users being throttled if they use a lot of data to me is more of a move to cut costs as down the line they can completely phase out the old technologies in favor of WiMax/LTE systems for data and voice.

So just in case no one saw, they updated the article.

Update: We're hearing from a couple sources that the shot here from The Playbook is a little out of context, and actually refers to a new feature for businesses looking to restrict disproportionately high usage by employees with company data cards. That sounds a little less painful, does it not? Thanks, everyone!
Sprint to begin throttling data this summer? (update: not exactly) -- Engadget

So they rile up everyone in the comments and then get an update. Engadget is the biggest tech blog joke going right now. They pulled an i4 comparison article all because they claimed "not all the facts" are known on the iPhone4's features, saying it wasn't "fair". Yet it didn't stop them from doing similarly when the EVO was first revealed in March. They're trying to knock Sprint down a few pegs after the i4 announcement.

It is also NOT for personal accounts. Just business accounts, and specific to the aircards put in laptops. So no one posting here is going to have any different type of service then what you have now. I hate when tabloid type reporting. Get part of the facts, then fill in the rest with what you make up yourself. I'm having bigfoots baby, yall.

Okay locked. Thanks for using the report post feature, guys. We can't be in every single thread all the time.
