Sprint vs Boost

Sprint owns Boost. Literally. Same with Virgin Mobile. No contracts, cheaper phones...Upside is you can use a Sprint phone on Boost, so you could buy an Evo3D off contract and use it on Boost. They won't let you keep your Sprint phone number though.

they do let you port your number...I went from spint to boost and then back, as long as your bill is paid up to date there is no issue.

The official Boost/Sprint stance is that they don't do it. I can only go off what they print and what they say in my area. I'm on Sprint, and have been for years, but I work with people who have switched to and from, and had to change their numbers. Yes, it CAN be done though.

You can run Sprint Android phones on boost? Since when? I thought it couldn't be done? I know people have flashed Evos onto Cricket and MetroPCS but never heard of high end Sprint phones running on BM.

Yes it is true Boost has no contracts and low fee but, sprint isn't foolish just try a little experiment with a sprint and boost phone next to each other, you'll see a huge difference, you thing they are on a "true" 3g network, well it is but throttled way back, and for good reason, overage. sprint phone fly compared to boost and yes there are roaming charge and certain other things they will charge for as well. they will never give the package that you get with sprint and by the way, sprint gives free navigation, not Boost. you want info on the truth look it up, yes it is a great price if you just text and email. but if you do business or other stuff like playing graphic games, Sprint is the clear winner.

I've got some friends thinking about switching from other carriers to either Sprint or Boost and they asked me to explain the difference between them.

I had never heard of Boost Mobile before so I checked them out. Truthfully I can't see much difference between the plans. I use and EVO 4G and one I'd the friends just bought a new EVO and had it flashed to work with Boost.

Has anyone had experience with this and why would we stay with Sprint if the cost savings is there?

Yes they offer discounts but there is only 2 things that are the same. The CDMA network which is the unlimited talk, text and wireless Web. And the other network is IDEN which is push to talk or the walkie talkie feature on some phone kind of like the Nextel ones. The speed at which you browse on Boost says it should be 2g...but heard it is closer to 1g. Which is really slow. So if cost is an issue then Boost is the way to go. If not I would recommend staying with Sprint. Remember you get what you pay for.

I want to know this too then. Hell I don't require 4G. I use wifi a lot. And even fifty bucks is better than 100 I pay. My contract has been up with sprint since May anyways lol and I don't need insurance either. This has me hyped haha

Boost Pros: Lower monthly service IF you pay on time, Miss a payment your going back to $50! $60 for Blackberry!

Cons: NO customer service, call them and see for yourself, they might answer in an hour!

NO roaming, no sprint tower NO service!

NO Current model phone! Great selection of 2009 discontinued models!

Not all markets have 3G some still working in 2G, and Never will you see 4G!

I switched to Boost via eBay. On my Evo 4G i have roaming, 3g, and hotspot. It works as well as when I was paying Sprint more money.

Just to clear up the 4g issue...A flashed to Boost has always been able to get 4g working on it...A lot of times after a Sprint high end phone(Evos,Nexus, Galaxys, etc) the previous owners 4g account will continue to work for a while.. But the way that is has always been done is by someone with a 4g Sprint account giving you their wimax address and password, and programming it into the flashed phone. Apparently, 4g service is not tracked and this kind of "piggybacking" can be done(unlike 3g).

Boost does have 4g now! Boost has adopted the 4g wimax(with the Evo Design being the first) ,and if you have a flashed phone and someone with a Boost account gives you their address / password/ info I'm sure it would work the same way(have never tried though).

Also, to clarify what the person said about Sprint not letting their customers port their numbers to Boost..In my experience this is not true at all, they happily port their numbers to Boost..Verizon as well...Sure their is a qualifier that decides whether you can port(like whether your account is in good standing and I believe if you have been a customer for at least six months). I have never been declined on all the numbers I have ported for people.

Typically no..to get phones from one carrier to another, the donor phone must be 4g. That would be the other way.
An I've not seen a cheap 4g donor phone ever.
Its a lot more work than just porting a phone number to make it work too. I did an evo for my wife and it took a few tries to get it right.
I spoke with a boost store manager that stated if you go to a boost agent, not a direct store, they have the ability to flash and add your phone esn directly to boost as long as its a good esn. She said typical cost is around $75-80.
Do not pay for a over network flash from someone. I've seen tons of people ripped off getting it done.
If your willing to do it, do some research first. It takes a lot of time and patience.
I'm getting ready to do my second one here as soon as it arrives from eBay :thumbup:

Boost has one 4G phone now. To buy the EVO Design 4G and use as a donor phone would be a waste. So, in essence, there is really no way to have an EVO 4G work on boost WITH the 4G working???

Not sure if you read my post or not...But I think you might of miss understood the porting thing...just porting a Sprint number to Boost will not make a prohibited phone activate on Boost...You have to port the number on to the donor, then flash the phone.

You do not need a 4g donor to get 4g on a flashed phone. Just permission to use, from whoever lets you use their 4g account info, then program the flashed phone with it. Like, I said, after I have flashed a phone..several times the 4g account of the previous owner of the phone being flashed will continue to work for varying lengths of time.

Also, I've never heard of a "over the network flash" what kind of flashing method is it? You mean like ota service programming after you have flashed it?

I read your post but I don't understand the intracacies of flashing to Boost. Sorry, I am new to the entire flashing to Boost process. I had someone flash my EVO 4G for me to boost but the 4G doesn't work (which isn't a big deal but I would be interested in getting it to work if it can be done).

What would you need to get the "4g account info"?

And you say the previous owner's account will continue to work for varying lengths of time. Are you using accounts only that have ended or are ending soon?

Unlimited talk,text,web is 50 bucks a month..+5 bucks if you want Android service...your bill does shrink every 6 months that you pay it on time..theyHave insurance and it to costs me 5 bucks and they have free navigation..i know all this to be fact because i have been a boost customer for over 2 years now ..hope this helps
