Any word about Sprint ending unlimited internet?

They arnt gonna eliminate it, they are stand alone when it comes to unlimited and they are gonna keep it that way. Especially with the iPhone being on sprint now, people will switch over just to have the iphone unlimited data, sprint is putting limits on hotspot and tethering tho try to get rid of some bandwith hogs, that alone should help with data speeds,

Too far off for me to stress. I just wish they would turn on the 4G towers in my area that they have been testing all year. However, I am very curious about the upcoming LTE options from each manufacturer.

LMAO, are you listening to yourself? Do you actually believe that sprint won't eliminate unlimited data? I can assure you that its only a matter of time before they do and to be quite frank I wouldn't be surprised if by this time next year that unlimited data won't be available any more. Sprint can't compete with unlimited data and lower prices, I mean look at them now, it hasn't gotten them any where. They need to beef up their network and thats all there is to it and the only way to come up with enough capital to do so is through raising prices or significantly cut costs and thats what they are doing now. Look at verizon, expensive as hell but look at how good their 3g network is and look at how insanely fast they are expanding LTE markets. Verizon has done this by showing their customers the value of what they are getting, thats why they can charge higher prices. What people need to understand is that in most cases price is not the first choice when making a purchase decision its value. Value is not the same as price and thats why verizon is kicking everyone else's asses.

Price is usually the biggest concern in my experience and at this point nobody but sprint really knows how long they will keep unlimited data plans to but seeing how it's one of their main selling points right now I'm sure it won't be no time soon

Sprint at some point and time WILL get rid of the unlimited plans. It's only a matter of time IMO. When LTE hits and IF Sprint can get it right and fix the coverage issues and 3G issues THEN they will do away with it. I mean really...its the only thing keeping a good chunk of their users. Its certainly not the network. Well not where I live!

So in the end YES Sprint will change in the end IF the network becomes up to par to Verizon. Thats what I think.

Like I said in "MOST" cases its not about price, so obviously you are an exception. Lets look at the obvious here, if it was just about price then sprint and tmobile would obviously be the #1 and #2 carriers, but thats definitely not the case. I am sure that most att/verizon customers know that if they switch to sprint or tmobile that their plans will be cheaper but will they? In "MOST" cases, no. Why? Because sprint/tmobile are perceived as low value carriers compared to att/verizon and thats a fact.

Everyone is going to have their own opinion on price, value, and performance as factors.

I find myself less tolerant these days to Sprint's coverage in some remote places where I go from time to time. Some may not experience this because they might be in the 'cities' all of the time.

I expect Sprint to eliminate unlimited data just like Verizon and AT&T. Hopefully, they grandfather us like they did with their users. If they do not and handle it like they are with the data cards, I will be leaving for Verizon as the 'value' for me has been eliminated.

I didn't say price wasn't a deciding factor, what I am saying is that your perceived value is more of a deciding factor in that it determines the price you are willing to pay. Also to add, perception is gonna very from person to person. I have been with sprint for a very long time and yes my rates are in-expensive compared to verizon/att, but my choice for being with sprint has to do with the value of what I get based on my habits more so than just the price.

They need to fix their 3G before thinking about LTE. Their 3G is so slow, it's embarrassing in most areas.

what's the point in updating outdated technology when it's going to be obsolete and abandoned within the next 3 years anyway? i think they should focus on getting some form of 4G or 3.5G or whatever one may want to call it, but fixing something that is about to be in the garbage is just wasting money.

I agree, with the state of the economy over the past few years, lots of people are looking at price moreso than value. not to mention the fact that value in my opinion, is often viewed using aesthetic enhancing glasses, considering that people are willing to pay the amounts charged by lots of retailers, Apple being one of those. There does seem however that a movement toward perceived value is going on, which is also hurting the economy, imo

Verizon has long had a quality network without tiered data. You almost sound happy getting shafted by these carriers because a small percent of users go over 2 gigs of data. Why should I suffer because of a couple of idiots. If the percentage of data hoggers were that small as they say; then they should just target them; not everybody. Everything now is data and cloud based; so us as consumers get screwed in the end with carriers making excuses to over charge us. Fix your dam network with all the billions in profits; keep unlimited data, and go after the data hoggers!

I had a mobile hot spot with 5GB 3G and unlimited 4G the old standard plan well now they are doing a 5GB cap across the board to cut down on data. That is fine. But the problem I had is when I called retention and said is this for new customers and I am grandfathered in or what?

The rep told me NO one is grandfathered in. Now that is lower than Verizon and AT&T ever did in my experience. Anyways I asked the rep for the fax number to her department that I was going to be faxing in a copy of my signed contract where the sales rep wrote 5GB/3G Unlimited 4G on plan and that the terms were broke since no grandfathering so no ETF she agreed and did not even said the faxed copy was not even needed.


NOW THE MAIN POINT. When unlimited data goes away will Sprint do the right thing that time and grandfathered in all of us with unlimited phone data or will they do this again thinking Verizon and ATT are already capped so F our current customers?

I think it's going to depend on how much data handset users are using on average and the state of the network at that point. If the future network has plenty of spectrum and moreover uses a many-minicell layout where the contention isn't that high, they could probably leave unlimited data for some users on for a while.

My guess is that data use among handset users will continue to climb at a very high and non linear rate and sprint will have to cap even handsets for everyone at some point.

They should just go metered, IMHO. Straight up 1 cent for 2 megabytes to start, then vary the price until load on the network matches capacity.

Service in southern California is horrible in the last 30 days service has gotten real bad. I left verizon when Sprint offerd the EVO 4G and boy was I exited it was the first 4G phone. We were lied and told $10 was for the 4g but later was corrected and was told it was a smart phone fee. Wow i was going to get 4g. not.. I then was offerd to upgrade to the evo 3d and I Did. In the mean time Verizon turned on their LTE everywhere and we were left out. Now our 3g has gotten so bad every day i have dropprd calls. So not only did we not get 4g but we also are not getting full 3g. Now i look at all the nice LTE phones that verizon has with full LTE service and i wish I could bring time back. Like they say you get what you pay for.Now I rather pay a little bit more for service that is actually available but i cant. I paid an early termination and left verizon to save a buck. I was supposed to get a credit to port my phone but did not because sprint cancelled the promo. Now i would like to go back to verizon but have to pay a sprint termination fee and can no longer go back to verizons unlimitted data plan. I am so upset at you Dan Hessey and Sprint.

Yes they need to fix the 3G coverage. In most states it is in a sad state. I am hoping they do better. I'd love to stay with Sprint!

3G is not broken... It is slow because the 3G Network is clogged with all of those who would be using 4G. They said that Network Vision (the new multi-spectrum network) will more than fix this issuse.

To all posts that are guessing, assuming, or wondering whether Sprint will or will not get rid of their "unlimited data," Nobody knows at this point - so, the only official news we can go with...is that "Sprint NOW prove to its customers that they are the only true unlimited data carrier" I'm just working with this for now, anything else is unofficial.

I guess I'm a data hogger because I don't watch my usage? Why would I want a carrier telling me how much music I can stream, pod casts I can download or YouTube videos I can watch in a month?

I think you and people like you need to look at the past and then look at the future. If you don't think mobile is the future of computing and that mobile data usage will skyrocket you are sadly mistaken.

Buy a dumbphone with email access and get an ipod touch and leave the smartphones to the people that actually use them, yes?
