In Dallas yes the Sprint Network is IMHO worse than Pathetic... and this was an LTE "LAUNCH" City? Really? I live over in Coppell and work over by DFW... I have two friends with T-Mobile and they get horrible coverage at the office.... but other friends who have AT&T get amazing LTE coverage at work and around Grapevine, Lewisville and Coppell... From 636 and George Bush over to 121 I can lose signal completely with Sprint in spots.. Horrible compared to what I got with them up in Nashville, TN before I moved here two years ago....

Sprint is in a precarious position with network vision upgrades disrupting service every where. I have a N5 here in NYC and I can say that the signal reception is way better than any other phone. I have recieved 17mbs on LTE down loads. When Saprk is unloced on the N5 here in NY I expect what anonther SG4RU member got speed wise down loads in the 50-60mbs range. The only problem is whether or not the N% can function properly when switching between bands when sending text and recieving calls.

I've been with Sprint going on 15 years now.. The problem I have with them is they've always offered pretty darn good plans at relatively "Cheap" prices... But I've been waiting for them to "SHINE" all these years... 4 years ago Wimax was going to be the $hit and take them to new levels.. Clearwire and WiMax were going to be the dominate 4G service in America... and outside of it destroyed my battery like no tomorrow that was a bust... Then even before the Softbank deal they had this "Network Vision" plan.... and I got a link that shows all the towers and in my area they have all these "Upgrades" according to their site... Hey all the towers next to you have had 2 data and 1 voice upgrade in the last six months as part of our network vision plan..... but my speeds are still horrible... and I've gone from an HTC EVO 4G, to HTC EVO 4G LTE, Samsung Galaxy S3 and now the Nexus 5 so it isn't the phone.... and it's not like I've lived in back wood towns... I lived in Memphis, TN for 3 years and then Nashville, TN for 4 years and now I live in Dallas, TX...... and Yes in certain spots in all 3 of those towns coverage was pretty good and I've seen 10+ mbps speeds down while in Downtown Dallas or Nashville but even in and around Downtown you can turn corners and lose signal completely and have to walk 100 yards before you pick it up again (My wife even has the HTC One and has the same problem with her phone as I've had with all my Sprint devices as well) and their LTE service is so spotty I default my phone to 3G only because in and around Dallas I pick up LTE signal here and there and watching my phone switch from LTE to 3G to 1X just destroys my battery... Leaving it on 3G it keeps the 3G signal and I get better battery life.........
Ugh.. Sprint has just spent the better part of the last Decade saying "It's going to get better.. We promise... We'll give you Unlimited for life." but I barely use 2 gig of Data a month because I end up saying "Screw it... I'll look it up when I get home." or wait until I find WiFi...... Even though I'm going to drop Sprint I hope they get their $hit together and finally get their overall network up to snuff... I'm pulling for them I just can't do this anymore.. lol.......
I truly understand...I have been with Sprint since they opened the doors. Until network vision they worked well for the prices and coverage offered to me. I was able to drive from Massachusetts to Tampa Florida along I95 and never drop a call. In NYC I have had great coverage until network vision startd. I used my phone to navigatin and mostly calling for business and Sprint has been ok at that. Most people are un happy about Wimax and 4G.
Sprint went with Wimax and Clear hoping to get a jump in thew 4G area but when other carriers went with LTE Clearwires funding went into the toilet. Sprint tried going with Light Squared, and Falcone wa blocked by a memebr of the FTC that was alledged to have block light squared from implementing it's plan to roll out 4G. Soooo.....Sprint got off to a late start with the 4G LTE service falling behind because they stuck with Light Squared until the last minute, and the failing of Clearwires lack of funding. Sprint Bought Clearwire toroll out 2600 band spectrum that will rival any competitor when they are done. Spark implementation in NYC and other large markets shows that Sprint means business. If you are unahppy wit service you have a right to leave, and no one can fault you for that.
To me now is an exciting time to be with a carrier that offers unlimitted service, and Sprint will rise to the occasion when the smokr clears. Go do your research, but if you feel jaded good lcuk to where ever you land. I think you may come back when it's all complete. Sprints Network Visision will Rival and possibly out shine them all in the end based on my research. 60MBS in NY on a LG G2 inspires me because I have a N5 and live in NYC!
Same. But remember, not everyone lives in new York. I'm actually pretty happy with what I'm getting right now. LTE in Brooklyn isn't half bad. My only gripe is not picking up signals when I'm in a building and need it most. I'd actually prefer going 4g nowadays because for some reason my N5 drains faster on wifi than on 4g.

I've done my research... I've followed the WiMax deal, clearwire all the way to the sale to Softbank...... The Softbank deal looks like it could really inject the kind of money and knowledge into Sprint for future expansion.. I've seen what they have planned for Network vision and your right... I grew up in NC and use to travel to NY and down to FL.. I am VERY familiar with the I95 corridor... for the most part I never dropped signal at all.. I originally had Bell South Mobility (which is now AT&T again) and switched to Spring when they came out with their "No Roaming and No Long distance" plans back in the 1990's because I was getting killed with Roaming and Long distance (I use to travel to New York City at least twice a month from NC) and I've been with them ever since... Actually the funny thing is my old Bell South Mobility/AT&T account is still active... When I switched my dad took my Bell South AT&T phone and started paying the bill as his first cell phone and that account is still active and in my name today....
Anyway.... AT&T is headquartered here in Dallas (Although their Wireless division is Headquartered in Atlanta) but their coverage seems to be way better here in Dallas vs what Sprint offers... At least with the Nexus 5 I could always come back to Sprint if and when they vastly improve their network and coverage here in Texas... I've also looked and with my corporate discount I still pay $70 a month with Sprint and I can go unlimited Talk, Text and 2 GB data for $37.50 per month (plus taxes) or 52.50 per month if I bump that up to 6 GB of data with my corporate discount... I rarely use over 2 GB per month and I'd probably need 6 with improved speed and coverage... Nashville, TN and back home in Raleigh, NC my coverage with Sprint was way better.... Here in Texas is horrific and CDMA eats battery slightly more than GSM.... (but I think a lot of that is just because of the bad coverage) Spark would be interesting but it would need better coverage.. Right now I get LTE in and around Dallas in spurts.. Driving around it goes in and out... At the Rangers Ball park in Arlington you get LTE on one side of the stadium but if your on the other you lose it... and I get LTE outside Cowboy (AT&T) stadium but not inside....
INDEED...THAT IS WHY I SAID IF YOU LIVE IN A COVERAGE MARKET OR A CITY WHERE SPARK IS LIVE IT IS A GOOD TIME TO BE WITH SPRINT. If having the fastest LTE speed means more to you or if you are not in an area of coverage yhen go where you can get covergae. If you have coverage and it is deteriorating Chances are it is Netwoek Vision upgrades going on. To leave now when Sapk and LTE is up and coming is something I would not do, but I get LTE coverage all through out the Bronx, and as far as Middletown NY upstate.

Sprint has the capital and the spectrum to build an awesome network and I believe they are doing just that. However, I did not forsee the service issues that the upgrades would introduce. It has been far from transparent. I am in Miami which is a spark market so I am going to try and stick it out but I certainly understand those who have lost patience.
Back in the day, Sprint used to be on the forefront of providing data services. They introduced 1xrtt and evdo pretty early and rolled it out nationwide fast. They also were ahead of the curve with wimax/4g but that proved to be a terrible decision that seems to be a huge contributor to where they are today.

Just don't know what the deal is with Sprint in Dallas... Like I said I stayed with them when I moved to Dallas two years ago.. I got my EVO 4G LTE at launch and they didn't officially launch LTE in Dallas until about a month after the device came out... They made a HUGE announcement when LTE went "LIVE" for the first time with Sprint and Dallas was a Sprint LTE "LAUNCH" city and the coverage has been minimal. You get LTE in spots and if you move around any you go in and out of LTE coverage all the time. Inside buildings is by far the worse.... I'd like to say it's part of the growing pains of their Network vision but it's been this bad since I moved here..
and what a joy that inside my home or in my back yard no LTE signal... Pull out my drive way and go less than 1/4 mile and I pick up a great strong LTE signal and then drive another mile down the same street to the gym and it's gone go a mile in the opposite direction towards work it's gone... and I pulled up a site and it appears there is a tower near me that broadcast LTE but you get about a mile radius from that tower and you lose it.... My house is on the outer edge of the radius for an LTE signal...
Hi - I live in NYC too and have a 16 GB Nexus 5. I am usually around midtown in the city and also in Queens. Queens gets LTE most of the time. Manhattan it is usually 3G, but sometimes switches to LTE. My speeds are 1 mbps max on 3G. When the network does go to LTE (which is not often), I've seen at most 4 -5 mbps.
For all practical purposes in Manhattan, I'm usually on 3G. Sometimes the phone gets to LTE, but then switches back to 3G in a bit. The only way to get back to LTE is to reboot. Even the airplane toggle does not help restore LTE. Sometimes I totally lose connection when I toggle airplane mode. Then I have to reboot anyway.
I've enabled Triband and set priorities of 1,0,0 (with band 41 as the highest). I've even tried 1,1,0 and other combinations, but the service has not improved.
Could you please tell me if there is something I can do? My Nexus 5 was purchased from Google Store. I got the SIM card shipped from Sprint. I activated my phone by calling them. I'm not sure whether the speeds will improve. I can't really do anything useful on my phone when internet connection is required. It's either too slow (lower than 1 mbps) or does not work at all. I've noticed that things have gotten worse in the past 2 weeks or so. Before that I used to get more LTE signal in Manhattan. Not any more.
Perhaps it's time to switch to Tmobile. I'm out of contract, but have been with Sprint for 10 years and still waiting for the day when it outshines other networks. Thanks in advance.

thats very surprising actually that your getting speeds that low in the city. I was just in the city and had LTE the entire time i was out there. Try setting your bands to 0-0-1 and make sure you enable band 25 and 26 (i think, i dont remember the numbers but when you see two bands tap and enable them). Every since i did this i've been getting about 14 up and 7 down, which i pretty good for sprint imo. That was for brooklyn though, i didnt take a speed test in the city. But the lte seemed just as fast as it did in brooklyn so why not give it a shot.
I live east of Tampa in Brandon. I get good lte speeds. I'm just waiting for the ota from Google to try out Spark.
I have recieved 17mbs in the Bronx, and I can tell you it is an exciting time to be with Sprint. LTE signal is popping up in a lot of places including Middletown ,and Poughkeepsie NY. I get Signal all through otu NYC. Today in Brooklyn I got sinal as well.
I could be wrong but I think the "spark icon" is something added by sprint to sprint Roms, since the Nexus 5 is not running a sprint ROM it may just use the LTE icon

He said at work he has LTE in the lobby of his building and said speeds are in the 5Mbps Down range, but 3G in his office and around the area.
At his apartment he only sees 3G but said the speeds on 3G have improved somewhat recently.
I wish Sprint the best (especially as a stockholder) but I have to be honest they need to step up their game or I am afraid it is not going to be good for them as more and more customers look to greener pastures.
