Sprint's Vision Network, including 4G LTE, has just landed in the City of Chicago

I just opened Facebook, and it loaded so quickly it surprised me. I checked the notification bar and I HAVE 4G! I don't know if they're merely testing it (it's 12:58 a.m.) or if it's permanently activated. Whatever the case, I used my phone's hotspot to connect to my ASUS TF300T and voila! Everything checks out fine. And, even though I'm in an older brick building, the signal is strong and steady. And it's extremely fast. The combination of the S3 and 4G LTE makes for a truly great experience.

For you Chicagoans, I live in the Lakeview/Lincoln Park area. So, if you're in this area, you should be up and running (unless this is just a system check). If you're in other areas, especially downtown, let us know if and when you're also up and running.

No problem.

Enjoy the LTE !

I WISH WE HAD 4G LTE HERE IN COLUMBUS, GEORGIA. THEY HAVE IT IN ATLANTA... APPROXIMATELY 90 MILES NORTH. SEEMS LIKE EVERYTHING STOPS IN ATLANTA. :'(:'(:'(

I don't know if every area in the city has it yet. I was told several months ago that my area was scheduled to be one of the first in the city to get it. I'm hoping other Chicagoans will chime in to let us know if they've got it in their area.

I recently got 4G in Fort Worth, good stuff.

And off-topic...but uh. Should it just say 4G on the bar? Cause i know it actually says LTE on AT&T. Just wondering.

Yes. All it will show is 4G in the notification bar. You can go to Settings, About phone, Status, and you can get all the info.

Nothing at Navy Pier. Still a cellular black hole.

Per s4gru.com, the closest to downtown Chicago that they have gotten is 2770 N. Sheffield on the North Side, 1215 W. Jackson on the West Side, and 1605 S. Canal to the South.

The 2770 N. Sheffield tower is around the corner from my house but not turned on yet, according to Sensorly. There is one at 3950 N. Clark that I can pick up intermittent signal from.

I'm at Diversey & Southport. Strong signal.

In addition to the blazing LTE speed, I've noticed an increase in 3G and wifi speeds. So it seems Sprint is pretty accurate in its claims about its Vision Network.

I'm getting LTE in the northern suburbs. (Lincolnshire, Libertyville, Lake Forest, Waukegan, North Chicago, Zion

I was in Lake Bluff on Friday and had about 10 down in a building. It's the first time I've seen my 4G work. Nothing actually says LTE, but no matter, it was nice.
Again, I live by the lake, downtown and it's the worst. Looks like it will remain so even when everything is "deployed".

Weird, because I'm a block north of Diversey on Sheffield and my LTE signal is meh at best.

The LTE signal is very fragile. What you're experiencing isn't implausible. For instance, I have two towers approximately equidistant from my house. One is an active LTE tower. The other is in the process of its upgrades (and may be slightly closer; I don't know the exact location of either tower). At my house, I can connect to LTE on the active tower, but only for a minute at most. I'm assuming it's because the phone is trying to connect to the closer, unfinished tower and getting rejected. The LTE signal I get at my house from the finished tower is pretty weak, "meh at best". However, if I drive just one block closer to the completed tower, I get a steady signal to the completed tower with no disconnects.

My point: One block can make a noticeable difference with LTE signal, especially in a city with lots of buildings and other obstructions, like Chicago. Consider that my story is taking place in the suburbs with no tall buildings in the way.

True that definitely could be the cause (talking to post above).

They are working on expanding more and more though. I can't wait to get a little taste myself! :)
