SSH connection via USB?

Got a new Photon 4G. Rooted it. Added SSHDroid Pro and SuperUser.

After I start SSHDroid, I connect to the PC with a USB cable, and start up PuTTY or Tunelier on the PC. With PuTTY, all I get is a command window with a green cursor. No prompt for login or anything.

When I use Tunnelier, I get a 10060 error.

So apparently, my SSH clients will not connect via USB - or at least that's my hypothesis for now. Is this correct? Am I just missing something? Do I NEED to do this over WiFi or Bluetooth?

I'd really like to just SSH over the USB and run a terminal session on my PC.

Thanks in advance,

I'm not sure if the Photon is able to connect ssh over usb. My suggestion is to do it over WiFi because it is more likely to work the way you want it to.

Question: Don't want to get too much into your business, but why is it that SSH is required for your particular situation?

Thanks for the response.

I don't really NEED SSH to my Photon, but am experimenting and seeing if I can do this. What I really want is to access it via a terminal on my PC, via USB - I suppose I can use adb shell and/or photon-torpedo shell for this. I'm not really sure whether I need to go through the adb / photon-torpedo procedure just to get a PC-sized terminal screen or not (grin)...

I WAS happy to see I can run perl scripts on my Photon, though.

No, but I have managed to make do. I have the "Wifi Tether" app, and connect to the phone with my iPad, which is more portable, and also doesn't require me to connect through the corporate network at lunch. It gives me a larger-than-phone-screen sized display area, and, of course, the iPad keyboard for text entry. I can confirm that this works with both the iPad 1 and the iPad Air.
