I have starred my favorite contacts several times in the past week or so. They show up starred on the phone (Samsung Fold) and online at Google contacts.
Next day there are no starred contacts.

Any ideas?

Yes, they disappear (the contacts stay on the phone, but there are no Favorites) overnight - every night for a bout a week now.

They disappear at contacts.google.com as well (again, the contacts themselves don't disappear, but the Favorites list is empty)

Galaxy Z Fold3 - I think this started when I unlinked all of the contacts from the Verizon Cloud - I restored from the cloud Wednesday and it repopulated my old Favorites list - but they disappeared again overnight.

Galaxy Z Fold3
Starred contacts disappear every night (even online at contact.google.com)

I re-start them, and they're gone in the morning (not the contacts themselves - just the favorites list is empty)

At contacts.google.com, they're not called "Favorites" -- they're listed first under "Starred Contacts". Is that what you're referring to?

I made you the owner of the original guest post to make it easier for you to find.

That's odd behavior. I wonder if Verizon Cloud is somehow removing the stars (even though you unlinked it), and then those contacts are syncing back to your Google Contacts in the cloud (as unstarred contacts).

Are you able to completely remove or disable Verizon Cloud?

Figured it out, finally. A new sound profile app I downloaded was erasing the starred contacts every night at 11pm.when it automatically activated a night mode I had set up.

Hmm, that's a problem. Send feedback to that developer about this issue.

Does this app allow you to change the notifications when you get messages or calls from certain contacts? If not, then I don't see why an ap like that should have any access to your contacts in the first place.

Sound Profile Pro

Driving down the interstate last night at 11pm when I noticed a warning that switching to the silent profile would result in no starred contacts. There's a help section with details on this (and a workaround) on the website. I like the app as it's very customizable.

Thanks , it did sound like something 3rd party causing this issue, I thought was more common ones like antivirus, Malwarebytes and such lol

Hmm, that's an odd way of making the profile silent -- wiping out all of your Starred contacts without any way to restore them as they were before? Seems like they could've come up with a better way to do that.

Yea. The help section of the app discusses that. I just had not read that part.

I also discovered I could undo the changes at Google.com/contacts and get the stars back.

Hello I am Corcanoe, the developer of Sound Profile (Volume control) app.
Sound Profile is able to have different volume profiles for different situations. In each of those profiles the user can set the volumes for calls and notifications, and optionally set the Do Not Disturb to be automatically activated or deactivated when one of those profiles is activated. Also, the user is able to set in each of those profiles which of his/her contacts will be starred (favorite) or not.
The idea is to have, for example, a Profile Night where everything is silent except if my kid or my old grandpa calls or texts me (my kid and my grandfather will be the starred contacts in this case). Another example would be to have a Meeting profile to use at work, where everything is silent except if my coworkers, or my kid's school calls (my coworkers and my kid's school will be the starred ones in this case).
So, as you can see, Sound Profile can (optionally) modify which of your contacts are starred and which not.
If you do not need this feature just follow these simple steps:
If you need specific help just contact me this way:
Open Sound Profile >> menu > Edit profiles >> Select the one to edit >> Scroll to the section "Starred contacts", tap on it and be sure it is switched off (which is the default value by the way).
In case you want to specify some contacts to be starred for that specific profile then switch it on and select the desired contacts.
Keep in mind that the starred or non starred contacts will remain that way until you activate another profile which modifies them. As I said before, not all profiles must have the same contacts defined as starred. It is your choice.
If you need specific help just contact me this way:
Open Sound Profile >> menu > Settings >> Send me an email
Thanks
