Starting to really hate this phone and Sprint!

People should do homework before making an investment that they will have for two years. Sprint or not. ;)

You would think that people would do that. But no. I am a rep at at&t and it does baffle me on the most common questions I get. What is the difference in the smart phones, or what is an android? This comes from people looking to get smart phones and it is just astonishing that most people just don't do even a little research before they go to make the purchase. I don't mind it really as it is part of my job so I can't complain really. But still, I read into almost everything before I spend that much money and jump into a contract. Even before I go into the stores.

Hang in there. It's literally a flip of the switch one day to the next where they fix 3G at least. I'm in the south burbs.

You are so right and I usually research phones for at least a month before upgrading, but unfortunately circumstances didn't allow me to do that this time, my old Evo died at 7:30 pm on July 3rd and I had to do a made dash to the store before they closed, then I let the clerk talk me into upgrading without doing my research. You live and learn! :-[

Well of course unfortunate circumstances will come into play ever now and then. Cant really predict those.

This is why I left sprint and went with AT&T on the gs3. I now have great service, superb working phone with no issues. Fast speeds and multitasking are my best friend now.

I'll come back to sprint when they have it figured out. HTC really needs to fix their devices for their loyal customers.

I feel your pain. Believe me, I do.

I stumbled across this post looking for something else, but since I've been keeping a watch on Sprint for a couple weeks, I had to click the thread. Heh.

Since the long story spans about two weeks, I'll spare you the details, but suffice it to say, you are not alone.

We have not had service for just around two weeks. The Sprint reps at the local repair store (I stopped there twice), blamed lack of service on storms taking out Sprint towers (what storms?), but had no explanation why the roaming service wouldn't work. Now that I know the problem was, in fact, the "Sprint Vision Outage" and not the load of BS their reps were trying to pass off (because they honestly weren't told?), I am quickly losing my faith in them.

Back in 2001, I left Sprint to go to Cricket, of all companies, because Sprint's CS and service was so bad. About 5 years later my husband got a Sprint phone, and I quickly realized that the company had improved by miles, so I jumped in too and have enjoyed all the company had to offer.

Until Q4 2011 when they got rid of the Sprint Premier program (early upgrades, rebates, phone buybacks, etc.), everything else seemed to go to hell too.

I could go on for hours about how horribly I've been treated by their CSRs, and how I've been promised resolution for two week loss of service, but like I said - long story. The bottom line is that they are so unreliable, I will be counting the hours until I can cease my most recent 6-year relationship with this company, and plan to do some serious shopping among carriers.

I have an HTC EVO 4G too, that I I fell in love with the minute I saw it. However, despite all Sprint's investment in tower maintenance, we have NO 4G service in our market, and won't, until at least after 2014. We haven't even made the list yet here in SW Ohio. That makes the best part of the EVO useless here, so I'll probably be putting it on Craigslist unless somebody contacts me about it first.

Just know that you are not alone, and If you really want to see the range of the problem, and the regions effected by it - as well as be entertained by a lot of squeaky wheels - stop by Sprint's Facebook page. It's pretty hilarious, as long as you're not paying them for service they don't feel obligated to give you.

Is sprint still using the towers are down excuse? I heard that in 1999... It's sad that these carriers keep coming out with new phones to get new customers or lock the current customers in a new contract that they can't fix problems that will keep their current customers happy... God forbid if your in distress and you can't even make a phone call.. But who are we to voice our frustrations, and we're only the customers..

You have a link for that page, I could use a good laugh, of course I won't be able to get to it until I get home to my Wifi! :p

Download Mobile Signal Widget.
It will show teh actual 1x or 3G signal in it.
Something i would notice is my device getting warm and super slow data speeds. I forgot i had the app and put the widget on the home screen and sure enough Slow data speeds and warming phone were due to 1x. The widget shows the proper connection and the phone at the top shows 3G.. Also i get an exclimation mark in the widget.
The only fix is to reboot the phone.
I am going out on a limb and guessing it has to do with a software glitch that htc and sprint still need to work out with the new LTE stuff coming online.
Ive also noticed a lot of no data connections as well.

You can buy a OG Evo for like $120 on craigslist, swappa, etc. and use that until LTE goes live in your area.

Thanks for this guess I'll have to download it over wifi when I get home cause of course I'm getting a connection error every time I try to open the market!!:(

I would recommend this. Even a 3D for $150 if you can find it. Granted, you will have to deal with the fact that there is a $200 investment sitting in a drawer somewhere gathering dust for a few months, but it might be worth it. Pull it out, activate it yourself, and test drive for a day or so. If "the towers" in your area still aren't working correctly, back in the drawer, and another $10 credit from sprint. Even worst case scenario, if you have to keep it on ice for 4 months until LTE comes up in your area, you will be ahead if they give you $50 in credit, assuming you can sell the replacement for around what you paid for it.

A phone you know you won't keep might also give you some courage to do some things that you would normally never do with your 'keeper' phone, such as rooting/ROMs, or going without a case...(beware resale value impact).

Here is a 3D in your area listed $150, which in CL speak is $120... I've had this phone since launch and I still consider this option weekly...:p

I sold my Epic Touch when i got my EVO LTE, but i kept my EVO 3D as a back up.
I also wanted to see how well it worked with ICS when it was finally released. The 3D was a solid device. Just the 3D content was not very well supported.

My EVO LTE is not switching data properly and its getting stuck in 1x land. Because of this i have it set to CDMA only.
If it continues im going back to my 3D..

If the 3D gets a pretty solid CM build I'll probably sell the LTE while it still has some heat and just save that money aside for the next nexus.

At this point i wish I never wasted my upgrade (and paid for the upgrade to be moved up) and bought this thing.

About 2 weeks ago for a 4 day period I could not stream anything. I could barely get on fb. I had read that sprint was doing a lot of work to the network so I just rode it out. After 4 days of almost no Internet and non stop roaming it not only was back,, but it is better than ever. I can't wait for the lte switch to be flipped here in the Boston area.

Wow...so glad I found this thread. I'm visiting Chicago for 5 days and Sprint 3G is definitely unusable in the area. I have full bars but my phone will not connect to the network. I can't wait to get back home to California so I can at least use WiFi again (3G isn't that great at home but is certainly better than here).

Have you tried updating your profile? You should always do that when traveling. It usually helps immensely. It might not in this case but it is always worth a try. Especially since it only takes about 60 seconds.

Yup. I've even downgraded my radio because I thought the latest radio borked my 3g. Tried everything. This is the first time in 13 years with Sprint where I wanted to pull my hair out due to the network.
