Starting to really hate this phone and Sprint!

You would think that people would do that. But no. I am a rep at at&t and it does baffle me on the most common questions I get. What is the difference in the smart phones, or what is an android? This comes from people looking to get smart phones and it is just astonishing that most people just don't do even a little research before they go to make the purchase. I don't mind it really as it is part of my job so I can't complain really. But still, I read into almost everything before I spend that much money and jump into a contract. Even before I go into the stores.

Their research entails going to a store and asking questions to one whom they assume to be somewhat an expert on the products they sell. Why wouldn't they come to you for questions? Sure some people read around before going into the stores. But some people prefer hands on interaction and speaking with an actual person.

Again i stated that i dont mind it. I just myself prefer reading into it myself by going online. Get more done faster researching then going to a store for it.

Well I can definitely relate to your situation. Living in the Oak Park area, Sprints coverage is not very good. I called Sprint CS to and they said the tower near me was undergoing repairs as well. They gave me a $30.00 credit for this months bill, but regardless it's very frustrating. While on S4gru I read that the near west 'burbs were going to be upgraded in July, so I have to assume that is what's going on.

I also have a 4G LTE and I'm on my 3rd one. The first one was overheating, the second one had an issue with the BT and the 3rd one seems to be working OK. All of them got bad reception and the data speeds were all slow (including the one I have now). So IMO it's the towers, not the phone. My buddy lives in the Wicker Park neighborhood in Chicago, and just picked up an SIII and his reception and data speeds are just as bad on Sprint. Like others have said if you can grab a Wimax enabled phone cheap, that would probably be your best bet.

I work out in western Dupage county and the reception and data speeds improve greatly once you drive over I-294. At work I'm clocking in at almost 2mb down on 3G, so it really depends on where you live.

What gets to me is the lack of communication. And this is not restricted to Sprint but to just about every company and store I have to deal with both in my personal and professional life. There seems to be a prevailing overtone of secrecy and "protecting" customers from information, only wanting to let through things that are positive, polished, or carefully controlled. As an intelligent consumer, this frustrates me to no end.

Like most people, I wouldn't mind disruption in service if I knew why it was being done, exactly when it was happening, for how long, and what it means for me. These are typically things that could be easily conveyed, but are not.

A different example is just trying to get real product information, specifications, and instructions. It seems we have moved from an era of full access to such information to having to wade through tons of marketing hype, photos, "feelings", tours, etc to get to something solid. To put this into phone perspective, pretend you are phone shopping and just want to find out these basic specifications for several brands of top phones from manufacturer's web sites or from a store:

1) Which CPU, how many cores, and at what speed
2) How much memory (this is a big one that is almost always missing)
3) How much storage- but not just how much, how much is AVAILABLE to the end user (another almost always missing spec)
4) Screen display technology, size, and resolution
5) Battery size (mAh)
6) What version of Android
7) What ports and connectors are on the device (usb, charging, earphones, SD, SIM, etc)
8) Exact dimensions and weight
9) What warranty is offered

Seems like that would be easy, wouldn't it?

This thread is why the Photon 4G is still the best phone on Sprint. Strongest signals, excellent battery life & working 4G.

I loved the screen on the EVO LTE, but I am so happy I returned it.

I have had this phone now for about 5 days and I can't see for the life of me how anyone could complain about it,, it's an awesome phone.

Wait until you try to update 12 apps and leave Play to take a picture of something and then realize the phone won't do two things at the same time when your updates stop or are aborted. If you can't imagine something to complain about, then either you only ever do one thing or 5 days isn't long enough yet :)

But yes, it is still an awesome phone.

this is why I switched to AT&T

from MY SIII in sunny FL.

My wife and I were looking at att recently, but I just can't handle the 5GBs for $50. I'd be paying overages by the middle of each month. You would need to pay the extra cost of wifi in the home.
Do you consume alot of data? Pay for home wifi? How does this work for you?
As I said, we were hoping to move to att for faster, more stable data service, but after looking at att's new tiers, we're gonna stay with slower yet UNLIMITED data with Sprint. Hell, I can deal with pages loading a few seconds later if it's gonna keep my bill reasonable.
The minute Sprint kills unlimited, the next minute I'll be switching to att.

I can jump back and forth between apps and not have them reload.

1) AT&T sucks in dowtown Chicago.
2) You enjoying that tactile display, plastic body and old school hard button? I get nervous when I can almost see through the battery cover of a phone.

Every phone has it's issues, and not one phone will satisfy everyone. It comes down to what you want to get out of this phone.

IMO this phone goes toe to toe with anything out there right now (SIII, Nexus, Iphone) and the reviews by the so called "experts" back that up. The biggest issue with this phone, isn't the multi tasking, but the topic of this post which is the network. The network this phone (or any LTE equipped phone for that matter) is on is soooo bad right now that it really can't shine through the way it should.

Hopefully that will change in about 6 months.

Well if I'm out and about and need for some reason to update a dozen apps and happen to need to take a picture and my phone starts smoking then maybe I'll change my opinion, lol. Been with sprint about 12 years, I guess I'm in a great sprint area and have enjoyed great service. Fyi, I have already updated a whole bunch of apps and left the play store to do other things and had no issues so maybe your in a bad sprint area or you just got a dud. In fact, my 3g speeds in my area have been so good I don't care if they ever hit the lte switch. :o

YOUR biggest issue is with the network. And that's fine. But the plethora of threads and posts about the multitasking/reloading (as opposed to the network issue) speaks to a real issue for plenty others.

Remember, just because it's sunny in your town doesn't mean it's not storming somewhere else.
