I fixed my S5's static screen problem by checking the battery terminals. One wasn't quite touching the battery, so I pulled it out just a little, so that it would fully contact the battery when reinserted.
Bingo. Fixed it with a push pin in about 10 seconds. Maybe it was a paper clip, I don't remember. It was quick, though.
