Staying with One UI 6.1 ?

I presently have a Galaxy A 15 5G phone, and I still have One UI 6.1 and Android 14. I have two questions:

--Is there any reason not to stay with this? I have read a number of stories about problems with upgrading to One UI 7 and 8.

--And if/when I decide to get a new phone some day, will having One UI 6.1 be a problem?

Thanks.

I would think now by updating to OneUI 8 it should be stable enough to upgrade but you can certainly stay and just do monthly security updates

I'm on One UI 8 with 2 Samsung devices, you can stay on 6.1 but you won't get feature updates or important security ones and that is worrisome.

How do I do monthly security updates? I went to "security and privacy" in settings, tapped "updates" and was taken to a screen where it said "security update". When I tapped on this, I was taken to the One UI 7 update page, which I don't want.

Perhaps you're right. I do have the Bitdefender Security app on my phone. And, among other things, DuckDuckGo stops my apps from being tracked. Are you saying that these are not enough protection?

Hey! Bitdefender and DuckDuckGo are definitely good tools — they help with malware protection and stop a lot of tracking. But no single app can cover every kind of threat.

Think of it like layers of security:

Bitdefender - protects against malware and suspicious behavior

DuckDuckGo - helps limit tracking and privacy leaks

Still important - keeping software updated, being careful with permissions, avoiding unknown links/apps

So it’s not that what you’re using isn’t good — it’s just that security is strongest when you have multiple layers working together.
