Hi All.
I have been using Google Fit on my Moto G04 (Android 14) for a while but it hasn't been counting my steps since July 5. I have been trying various things to try to fix it, including re-installing a couple of times but with no success. I thought it was a problem with the app. but I installed another step counter app and I have the same problem with that.
Any ideas, please?

Thank you.
Eric

Besides making sure that all sensor/activity permissions are correctly set, if other apps fail, it sounds like a hardware issue rather than a software one, unfortunately.

I mean that there is nothing you can do. These restrictions are in place for banking safety, despite Android's popularity for its openness/freedom of modification (which poses an inherent security risk that banking/money-handling apps would rather not take).

Welcome to Android Central! I moved this from the Introductions forum to the Moto G forum, since it's more of a question than an intro.

Try something like Sensors Toolbox to see if your motion sensors are working in the first place.

Thanks for that, Laura. I have installed it but it doesn't seem to be working. The accelerometer, Light, Proximity and the step counter all say 'waiting for value'.
Looks like there is a problem with my phone.

You could try Safe Mode, although that would prevent any 3rd party app from working. Did Google Fit come preinstalled on the phone? If so, then you could still use Fit to test the step counter in Safe Mode.

If it still doesn't work in Safe Mode, then your next step may be a factory reset. If it still doesn't work after a reset, then that pretty much confirms a hardware failure.

I just tried safe mode but unfortunatley Fit didn't come pre-installed, so doesn't work in safe mode.
Don't fancy a factory reset as I don't want to lose all my saved passwords etc.
Thanks
