Sticky Paste Noise on back

OK I'm not starting something, but I'm curious if anyone else hears this:

(1) Hold tablet with edge containing power and volume rocker facing you

(2) Take thumb and place it just below the volume rocker on edge

(3) slide thumb to back cover stopping when your thumb fingertip is flush with back

(4) start pushing down and releasing on back and work in towards nexus logo

There's an indent after a lip on the edge that's about the size of a playing card noticeable on top left of back of device and my device makes a noise like adhesive was there but it gave out and it sounds sticky.

Never noticed this before but doesnt mean it hasn't always been there. Just seems odd to me and I couldn't help but think the "overly hot" running of the tablet over time has caused some of this perhaps.

Yes I'm looking for things now it sounds, but for $400 and just three weeks I shouldn't hear paste coming loose, considering its my second N9/(first wouldn't even power on).

I agree, to spend your time looking at little things like this instead of enjoying your tablet is a sign of failure on googles part. The thing is your concerns are waranted. I played around with a nexus 9 for a while in the store but would definitely never dare buy one. It felt like the cheapest device I have ever held, not an almost $500 device. Disappointing to say the least.

Yeah I was more so worried that a fitted case may have been the culprit, also makes me wonder why the official cases thus far are very minimal in their approach given past official cases had a slim fit design, perhaps the OEM knew something.

without knowing the cm process I can't blame google over HTC or vice versa, I'm sure some freedom is given to the OEM and mere specs are dictated as a minimum requirement, I'd be curious what the profit margin is for the N9 compared to other tablets and if indeed there's a markup above and beyond what the hardware and manufacturing warrants.

I'm sure there is a nice markup. Gotta make up for all the losses from past nexus's :)

I'm surprised no one else sees this, makes me wonder if it isn't case related. Cest La Vie, maybe in a few months folks will start seeing it.

I do like this tablet, current best android tablet out there for those of us whom don't like Samsung products and want a larger than 7" size.

It's not paste. They ran a wire underneath a copper heat shield sticker in that area, causing part of the sticker to pull up and fail to adhere. When you press down, you're reattaching the separated part of the sticker, but it inevitably peels up again, causing the pop sound you're hearing.

While the solution sounds easy (pop the cover off and press the sticker down), it's not worth it. First, it'll peel up again anyway, even if you reroute the wire. Second, you'll never get the back cover back on as flush with the frame as it is now, especially at the corners. Third, you might dislodge the camera unit, and have more dis/reassembly to go through.

If you MUST try a repair, make sure you hold the camera unit in place as you remove the back cover around it. Then, I would just stick a piece of tape on the sticky side of the copper shield where it's pulled up, sticky side-to-sticky side, effectively leaving the offending copper flap up in the air and negating its adhesive. No more noise.

Or you can wait until heat from regular use of your N9 kills the adhesive on the flap anyway.

Hey thanks -- glad I'm not alone in this...I haven't had the other build quality issues, and I actually like the feel of the back so I find myself unconsciously rubbing the back of devices that feel smooth hence why I tend to notice this more than others I guess.

The hard back if the N7 never excited me, I tend to gravitate towards textured backs (Maxx, Turbo, N9)

Thanks for info, and possible work around, I'll definitely just let use and time heal the undesirable issue. This is definitely what I call a "Number 5" type of device -- "no disassemble" ala Short Circuit movie "no disassemble Number 5" quote.
