Hi all, is this tab still a good buy? I have a note 4 and looking for a bigger work space, but don't have a lot of money. I can get a used one on swappa. Is the tablet holding up in terms of speed and stability? Oh and I'm not talking about romming. I'm talking stock here.

It functions as intended. But Samsung never pushed any OS updates for it, so it is stuck on 4.1.2. So none of the Microsoft apps will work on it, if you use those. Can't get apps to save any content to a memory card either. I mostly use mine for magazine subscriptions, and watching videos, and it does those just fine. If you can scrounge up a couple hundred dollars and really want Samsung, I'd go for whatever the current, highly advertised model.

It depends on what you can buy one for. If you can get it for 150 bucks or so and you really want a 10" screen it is a great tablet.
The speakers and sound quality are awesome.
The screen resolution is good enough but not as good as most newer high end tablets.
The s pen seems like a handy thing but I never use mine.
Battery life is great.
It has dual band wifi
You can upgrade it to kitkat with Gnabo rom available on xda.
I've come to prefer an 8" screen size so my note 10.1 sits on my desk as an awesome internet radio.

My daily driver is a galaxy tab pro 8.4. Those are rattling around the bargain bins too when you can find them. That is a screaming awesome tablet in every way. You should be able to find one for less than 200 if you keep your eyes open.

An LG G pad 8.3 is just a step below the tab pro specs wise but it is a really nice tablet too. Used verizon versions can be found for about 130. I got one for 99 dollars for my wife. All three of the above listed tablets are great.

I've been using mine since it first came out and still going strong. I have rooted it and am using the more updated Gnabo rom, miss some of the old stock Rom stuff, but not really having any problems when I updated to Gnabo Rom. I needed to because a lot of apps wouldn't update that I like to use. It still lasts long on my battery and like I said no problems. I love my 10" and when it does finally die, i'll be hoping at least a new version by then, because not too impressed with the changes on the 2014 edition physically, the software upgrades I get now with Gnabo Rom I like, plus the Note PRO 12" multiwindow options. I'm hoping the newest version if it comes out this year, makes some good changes, but I think taking the Front speakers off in the 2014 version was a big mistake, I like the original Note 10.1 much better, just sad they didn't update it. I have an 8" note I use just for notes, but still prefer the screen real estate of the 10.1" for drawing. The Note pro 12" just feels too big to hold to me. If you can get a good price and will not be disappointed with not getting updates, depending on what you mainly use it for, I think the original was the best one. Just my opinion.

Thanks all. I'd be using it for basic functions. Mostly using snote to take notes, calendar, Evernote, email, web browsing. That's it.

If you plan on using the S pen then by all means the note 10.1 2013 edition is a great tablet. Quad core processor, thin and light for a 10" tablet, etc. Plus there are lots of custom cases for it as well. I have mine updated to Kitkat with gnabo rom. It works great. I'd highly recommend it if you can get one for a good price.
