Still get Android 2.1 from HTC?

I was just reading on the xda forums and found this thread:

Official htc hero 2.1 rom scheduled!!! - xda-developers

It says there that an HTC official said the update is coming in late April. So, can I still get that update even though I'm rooted and am running Gumbo's 1.5c? If not, what can I do when the update comes out to ensure that I get it?

You would need to unroot back to the Laggy stock OS. If you'd like, the new damagecontrol 2.0.5 is based off of a Sprint Leak and is pretty complete in terms of everything working. I'm not a huge fan of the new "unofficial" official keyboard on it, but it should be on the release when it comes out.
To unroot, there are 2 methods:
Use Fresh's RUU which has bricked some phones, and others just don't work with it (I have Win7 and it couldn't recognize the phone)
Use the computerless method. Its in the XDA forums under the Hero CDMA subgroup.

I'm not going back to stock, period. The Sprint update may well have the root exploit patched shut, and there will be numerous ROMS available within days, if not hours of the release. Hypothetically, even if there were no alternatives, I'm plenty happy with the functionality and performance of the 2.1 leaks already available, to even think about giving up the freedom and flexibility of being rooted.

True, and I'm sure someone will release a Android 2.1 stock ROM as well.
