I am still having call quality problems with my droid when using the phone. When I call my girlfriend she complains about everything... and the call quality. I will start of by saying call quality problems only happen when I have my phone held to my ear using it like a normal phone, when i just hold it in front of my face, no complaints; when I turn on speaker phone, no complaints; when using my bluetooth (jawbone 2), no complaints. There is also the strange pitch in the ear piece at times and I have had complaints about an echo of the person I am talking to when they speak. This is starting to annoy me. Do we think it is a hardware or software. I got it on release day so can I still exchange it for a different one?

***One more problem that I just realized while messing around with this one, I only have two contacts in my contacts. This is very strange and annoying. I still have people with pictures and phone numbers but on two in my contacts. Ideas on this one?****

What does this mean?

You can certainly exchange it for another Droid if you are having call quality issues.

Some find that using the following steps vastly improves their call quality. You can give it a try if you want:

- Improve Call Audio Quality (Doesn't seem to work if you have anything to do with Alltel!)

Dial ##7764726 (##PROGRAM) and act as if you were going to call that number.
Enter 000000 for the SPC Password and then tap Verify
Tap on "04 Vocode"
Tap on EVRC-B than Apply
The phone should automatically reset a few seconds afterward. If not, power cycle the phone
Explanation - This changes how the phone compresses and decompressed the call audio which improves the quality.

As far as the thing with contacts, are you sure you are looking at your full contact list and not just the favorites?

I wasn't having issues to begin with, but this process did make my calls seem a bit crisper. I too would recommend doing this, if that doesn't help, you should probably take it back and exchange it for a new Droid.

How does doing that improve the call quality? Is it a big change? how do you know if you if it worked or not?

EVRC-B is an enhancement over the EVRC codec. It is being designed to be put into use for 4G bands once they become available, however it can also be used on the current 3G standard.

You will know if it worked if you were having call quality problems and after you change the Codec the same people will either tell you you sound better or they won't complain anymore :) Note that it can always be changed back using the same method, so it's worth a try.

I am still having the same voice quality issues even after trying the update from above. People at the other end can not hear me. I thought at first it was the case covering the hole but that is not it and then noticed it will slide over the mic; but even if I slide it back, people still can not hear me.

I also experienced my contacts disappearing. I fixed this by importing the contacts off the card. Try that and they will come back. But this is a problem.

Will try the call settings. Change and update everyone in a few min.

The contact issue I can only guess was due to my gmail sync. I accessed my gmail contacts online and saw that they were catagorized kinda funny. Only two of them were under "my contacts" all others were under other contacts or something to that extent. Moved them to my contacts as there were some random ones I did not want on my phone, synced it and they are all showing up. Probably because of new 2.01 settings and only saw it today.
