Still indecisive! HTC One or S4?

Does every indecisive person need their own thread to decide between these phones? I think there are more than enough around here. Whatever phone you get, you can't go wrong. Nothing anyone else says is going to change your experience with a device.

Just saying.

Nah, it's completely subjective. Sure there are some peeps that listen to music thru the external headphones and look at commercials for the One, that's who they're marketing towards. Time will tell however whether that was a wise decision. I can only say from my personal use that nice external speakers was a gimmick and not something I would ever use. I'm sure there are features on the S4 that many will never use as well.

exactly-thats my point. In the end its hard to say anyone could go wrong with either of these two devices. It's great for the android community that we are seeing quality devices like this to have the choice between. It was a tough decision for me to pick which device to go with whereas in the past it seemed that there was one great android device which was the one to have among many budget handsets. Its a win for the Android community to have a variety of devices to appeal to different tastes and needs. There doesn't have to be one device that has to be declared the absolute best and its this way of thinking that is causing all the ridiculous bickering/trolling/whatever in the forums. Personally I'm rooting for HTC because I think Samsung needs competition. I'd hate to see innovation become as stagnant as it has in the iOS community.

Agreed and I own both phones but chose the S4 as my daily driver. I may yet grab a Stealth Black unlocked One after the 4.2.2 update gets released.

The stealth black is the one I really wanted but that newphone-itis got the best of me and couldn't wait for it. Hopefully 4.2.2 will come soon. We all know how HTC has been with supporting their devices. That is something that should not be over looked (note to OP) when deciding between the two. If 4.2.2 takes forever, that could easily push me to the S4. Some people may consider the lock screen widgets gimmicky but I love them and the lock screen is one area the S4 absolutely kicks the One in the rear as of now.

I think people are comparing how quickly US versions of the S3 got JB compared to the One X and One X+. It was a difference of a few months. Sure you can argue about carrier delays etc but I think that's fresh in people's minds.

You're right about the lock screens and ironically, lock screen used to be HTC's strength.

Went in to the store with my heart set on the s4, tried them both..got the htc one. Not that the s4 is a bad phone cause it's not. It just didn't feel like a true phone to me. To many gimmicks.

I got the chance to play with the S4 over the weekend and I enjoyed, but for me, it was the S3 with a more solid body and better shape....the screen didn't impress me, I enjoy the LCD more, but that's opinion, camera is great on the ONE, lets be realistic, this is not a true camera, still a camera phone, also, the stereo speakers are a HUGE plus, with beats audio, HTC finally got it right! !

Same here. I actually was an HTC fan going back to the HTC Hero and Evo 4G. The Hero was a friggin' tank! Solid. That phone made me appreciate solid feel and built smart phones. I switched to the S2 and stuck with the S3 because they did bring something new the table. Yes. It was hard because, with all the shortcoming of Sense UI, the Touchwiz UI can be grating. I enjoy LCD more, but....did decide with the S2 and the S3. This time around. HTC One. Because HTC got it right. The S4 is a fine phone. But when I picked up at the AT&T store, .... I wondered why would I want to buy a phone that is the S3 with tweaks and lots of whistles? A co-worker told me she was going to buy the S3. I told her it's a good phone, but she should get the S4 since it already came out. She asked me why should she do that. I thought about it...and really made me happy to have purchased the HTC One.

PS..I still have the Nexus 4 so all the talk about non-swappable battery and no micro SD card slot doesn't really matter to me.

Since when did decent audio become a "gimmick"? Guess I've been doing it wrong all these years with my investment in better speakers for my TV, better boom boxes over cheap radios, and making sure the cars I've owned have had upgraded audio too. I guess I should have been settling for mediocre. But instead, I'll hope that more phone manufactures resort to audio "gimmicks" (I.e. better speakers) too.

On a cell phone it's easy to call it a gimmick since many folks dont look to their cell phones for external sound. Some will but is it enough to sell the phone?

I don't think of upgraded audio as a gimmick anymore then I would a better resolution screen or a better camera. To me those three things are just basic features of a smartphone and any upgrades to them are welcomed.

It's a purely personal preference. Since smartphones up to the One have absolutely sucked when it comes to speaker sound, it will be interesting to see if the One sells enough units to force other manufacturers to follow suit.

I too went in stumped.....I played with both for about an hour and decided that the S4 suited my needs just a little more. I guess it could have been the familiarity from the S2 :) My girlfrien likes the HTC One, so I basically will get best of both phones....

Do you actually think before you post? The boomsound is awesome for speakerphone, turn by turn navigation, actually hearing notifications in loud environments, things I'm sure most cell phone users can appreciate!

Hey, thanks for your suggestions, everyone! I've already got the HTC One, and I am pretty happy about it :)

Yes, the camera may not be sufficient to some, but for an average camera user (as in using it for social networks or something related), it is a very good camera. I've compared the One's to a friend's S3 and both he and I agreed that the One's look better. The only downside would be the zoom capabilities, but images still come out better A LOT than I expected them to be. I was extremely surprised on my initial impressions.
As for the battery, it's manageable for me. I'm not much of a heavy user, so the One lasts for me.
The memory wouldn't be that much of a problem. I may download songs and take pictures, but I won't try to fill my phone with them.
Lastly, the only thing I really am missing from the S4 would be its Multi Window feature. However, I can also manage it with the One's multitasking, so it's not that big of a problem.

Anyways, thanks again! You all really helped in my decision, and I'm pretty complacent about it.

I have the one and im sending it back for the s4, after having the s3 and then the note 2 I just cant stand the things being forced on me with the HTC one. to much social integration, and i guess i miss the normal samsung what im used to.
