I have searched and searched for a way to get visual voicemail to work on the nexus, and haven't come across anything. I've got the app loaded on the phone, old saved messages are showing up and playing, but I can't get it to register on sprint's system and actually take the incoming calls.

Has anyone else been successful in getting this working? I REALLY don't want to use google voice.

no, but doing a search on here will give you a couple of download links to the apk. moved titanium backup settings from a previous phone, which gave me my old messages, but no luck on the visual voicemail working.

yah i wasn't too thrilled with youmail either. not sure what it is, but the stock visual voicemail app seems to be the easiest to use for me.

seems as if there would be a way to make the apk register itself on the phone.

well, i might be making a little progress in this. I used a zip from a cm7 voicemail thread on xda, flashed in recovery, sent a voicemail to activate@vvm.sprint.com, and got a text back from 9016 saying it was activated. Just tried to send myself a voicemail, and the voicemail app did recognize the voicemail, but it shows "you have new voicemail that cannot be downloaded". Hopefully this is a step in the right direction!

here is the thread incase anyone else wants to work on this also. [How-To][APP]Visual Voicemail in CM7 - xda-developers

well hell...that helped some, but not enough. now, if you use the visual voicemail app to compose a message to my phone, it comes through on the visual voicemail app. but when you call the phone, it doesn't.

Is there some reason you absolutely need to use the Sprint visual voicemail app? Setting up just voicemail with Google Voice is far easier.

I initially used YouMail and liked it - till it was a battery suck and locked my phone. YouMail was aware of the issue at the time, and told me via customer service they had no intention of fixing the problem.

I hope that they've fixed the problems by now, but I won't be going back. If I can't use visual voicemail on the Nexus S (since I'm coming from my HTC EVO), I'll just deal with it - I'm not going back to an app that gave me so many headaches and problems.

As for Google Voice - I've never been able to set it up correctly - now if I could - I might actually go to Google Voice....hmm it's a thought..maybe sprint can help me set it up with the "ready now" program...I'm not stupid, but Google Voice is one application I was never able to conquer...

YouMail prompted me to call a number to finish setting up my visual voicemail, but all I got was a dialtone.

GV needs fixing badly, which is just unacceptable for it being a google application. It took over my texting until I finally got fed up with it and changed my setting and logged out.

Only problem I have now is this freaking Voicemail notification.

I had the same problem with GV, it took over my texting, i didn't mind until i had a bunch of late texts.

I've got GV just handling mu voicemail and nothing else. Wish I could help you set it up, but I set it up when i had my EVO and it just seemed to stay that way when I switched to the NS4G, and I have no idea how I did it. I don't know that I set it up like that when I was running CM7 and it was painless. Maybe try that?

Google voice is a bear, and from my experience the version that is installed on the nexus s 4g will not allow you to just set up voice mail only, it want's to fully integrate with your sprint account, which in theory is great but along with it comes allot of caveats. Calls being disconnected after a set amount of time, not able to send or receive text messages while on a call without WiFi.
I was able to update my Google voice application through the market place and from there when I started it up after signing out I was able to set it up voice mail only, and this seems to work like a charm.
HTH

As much as I hate it - I'll probably just have to live without VV until they update the Sprint app for the Nexus S 4G. I'm not going to have my phone taken over by GV for texts or anything else - when Sprint already has issues with texts randomly sending themselves twice, post-dating themselves, etc.

Google Voice works great for me. Does everything or nothing that I want it to do. <3

I don't even have GV setting up my voicemail, least I don't think so. When I do miss a call or get a voicemail, it comes through my text msg since I am signed out of GV. I got tired of it messing up my texts. So now I got the stock and another one that I now use, which I can not remember the name of.

It would be nice to have VVM on the Nexus, but I just wish this notification would begone.
