I purchased a black 128GB Pixel 2 XL last Thursday and after going through several rounds of security updates (the device initially had the September 2018 security patch), I haven't received anymore updates. Is there a reason I haven't been able to get the June 2018 and July 2018 security patches? Or is my device defective?

Try going into settings - apps - software update and clear the cache and data. You may need to show system apps. Check for update again once you clear it.

I'm not seeing software update in the apps section. And I showed system apps.

Hmm, maybe called something different on the Pixel. I'll have to power mine on when I get home from work.

If you want you can also install the Android P beta. Seems very stable with no major issues and you get to see the new gesture UI. Take a look at the beta thread for more info.

FWIW, my Pixel 2 XL doesn't show an "Advanced" option on the "Systems" page, but the menu items on the "Systems" page already include "System Update" as well as "Backup" and "Reset options" Is it possible that different menu items are displayed on that page when "Developer Options" is enabled?

No....I just turned off developer and all it changes is developer leaves the menu

I don't have developer mode on at all and I have it. I'm on the beta. Even if you aren't on the beta, it should be an option under system.

Hmmmm....many differences in the System settings. When I click on "System", "system update" is shown as an option right away and there's no drop down menu for "advanced".

Also, I sideloaded the June 5, 2018 security update and the OTA July 5, 2018 security update started downloading on my device right away after the device was rebooted.

I reported this same problem with my new Pixel 2 XL yesterday on a different thread. I had checked multiple times yesterday for updates and it kept saying my phone was up to date, albeit with only the May security patch. Today, I decided to check again, and suddenly there was a new security update ready to download. Very mysterious. Anyway, I'm now happily on the July security patch. Hope others got it sorted out somehow!

I had to sideload the June 5, 2018 security patch. Once it was loaded on the phone and the phone restarted, then I got the July 5, 2018 OTA update. I'm all caught up as well. :)
