Still worth buying this phone?

I want to make an upgrage from my year and a half old S7E.

I can get a very good deal on S8 from Carphone Warehouse (£480). My ideal situation would be to get an S9, but it seems quite expensive currently.

So, is the S8 still considered good and if I decide to upgrade to it from my S7E, is it going to get support and Android updates for at least the next 1.5 years?

It's definitely still a good phone, but at that price... I'm not sure. Don't know if the same offers are around in the UK or not, but in the US you can find a lot of offers for the S9 that peg it for about the same price or less, and definitely cheaper S8s. IF the deal you can find is absolutely the lowest and no upcoming sales are in the horizon (don't know about UK holidays), then it's still a good buy. BUT if the price won't go up and you can wait, maybe hold off until a sale on the S9 comes along or stretch it out until august when the Note 9 drops and the S models go down in price.

The phone is still worth it. Whether it's a good buy for you though depends on how bad you need or want a new phone, and pricing in the UK.

I would recommend you to actually get a OnePlus 6, it is better optimized than the S9 (more powerful) Has an excellent camera, a great screen, is splash proof, and has a bunch of other things that makes it a better phone than the S9 plus for the price.

The s8 still runs great. It's got two more years of support. Mines still runs super fast after 13 months, no lag or issues. I would say if you can get it on a bargain it's well worth it. Design still amazing.

Yeah Definitely S8 is such a great phone to buy. Camera Quality and software experience, Speed, Gaming performance everything thing is damn awesome I think S8 is still worth to buy

I love my s8. The only reason I'm upgrading to the s9 is because I heard the camera is better and I take a lot of pictures. I hope I'm not disappointed. I will find out soon enough.

I have both Samsung S8 and S9. Last 1 year I have used my S8 then last april I bought S9. Firstly I will say that the battery is much more stronger in S8. I still don't know why but I have noticed it. Secondly in camera though S9 has a super slow motion feature better than the S8 slow motion, still the brightness and the video quality of the video is much more good in S8. So I would strongly recommend folks not to waste $750 on S9 rather buy S8 now in much more less dollar and you definitely will be worthy.

I'm getting a great deal on the S8.
I love the Oneplus 6, it is an absolute beast...but the screen is just too large for my liking
The sweet spot of 5.8 inches inclines me to stick to the galaxies

only issue is narrowness, it's hard to type on imo but it's a great phone. Samsung is the king of Android easily.

I had iPhones for years. However they have way, way too many updates which introduce bugs every time and I'd had enough after years of "Why doesn't this work any more?"

My S8 does everything that I want but that is because it is configured not to update anything ever. And since it was good out of the box it's still good. I don't have the plethora of issues described in this forum and others. Actually it's pretty well flawless.

Personally I wouldn't say that the S8 "goes like lightning", it needs a reboot periodically presumably thanks to dodgy memory management but that's presumably Android not Samsung. In that respect it's a bit like Windows 95 was. It just generally "slows down" after having been up for weeks. Scrolling web pages just becomes that tiny little bit glitchy and things take longer to open.

However if software updates are your or anyone else's "thing" and you want them then I'd say the choice is clear. Go for the newest model every time.

It is the only one that will be tested to any extent with those updates before they're pushed to the phone since that's the model in the public eye and it can't get too much bad press.

That, and, the manufacturer whether Apple or Samsung couldn't give too hoots about your phone if it isn't much of a revenue stream and you're not "playing the game" with them by always rushing to buy the newest thing so it's not really in their interest to provide you with good quality updates for your old device and should they break something on an "old S8" they're not going to be quite so quick to fix it if at all.
