Still worth getting?

Personally I say get this phone. I made the switch a couple weeks ago with no regrets. Waiting for the next Nexus does not make any sense to me since you do not know how long you will be waiting. It could be six months it could be a years for the next Nexus.

This is a good point. Sprint won't have decent coverage till at least end of 2013. I never got the Wimax i was promised either!

Yes, I get the point about waiting for the next big thing being a never ending thing.

But like you say waiting for the next best thing in a month or two is different :) Having waited this long, I don't mind a few weeks more if there are going to be some announcements. Is there some site that has rumored dates?

As far as specs go, I'm more concerned that development for the GS3 might fall behind compared to the Nexus. I think its unlikely the next phone will really be that much of a jump over the GS3.

But I don't want to wait till the end of 2012. Then the same cycle starts again with rumors of the GS4 etc in the summer :)

As someone who has recently switched from Verizon to Sprint I would tell you just get the GS3 on Sprint. What you make up in data speeds you are going to lose in amount of data or money in your pocket. Verizon is fast but they are expensive and their rates are going to continue to go up. Sprint is an OK network and as they continue to roll out LTE their network is only going to get faster. The GS3 has one of the largest communities of any phone released. And if you look on XDA... the Sprint one is the number 2 most popular forum behind the Verizon GS3. And they are not going to be going anywhere any time soon.

It's a good phone but it's no Gnex. Crappy Touchwiz makes the phone run laggy compared to pure JB on Gnex and the hardware buttons are disgusting. Plus the Gnex screen looks better with its better dpi.

And rezound?? lol anyone recommending the rezound is just someone who bought it instead of a better phone and is trying to justify their purchase

Do you own a GS3? Or u just dislike the GS3? There is nothing laggy about the GS3 and TouchWiz love it or hate is pretty solid on the GS3 and many people including myself like it.. and the home button disgusting? OK you like pure android that's great! I do too I have a GS3 and Gnexus ... I'm sorry man its your opinion.. I get it, but.... You posting a comment just to show your taste in phones... The guy is looking for an open opinion not for someone to come say why you hate the phone.. The question is is it worth it(as a time frame to what's coming out) .... Not, why do you hate it...

Your kinda trolling here bruh... With all due respect

Do you want on screen buttons, or physical home/capacitive back and menu buttons?

That will be one of the major differentiators.

Also, if you want mSD support for that big card you already bought, it is highly unlikely that any of the future Nexi will support it.

Surely, you can't be serious. The Rezound is one of the most underrated, most powerful devices in Verizon's lineup. I debated between the Rezound and the Galaxy S3 for a while before making my purchase. The Rezound and S3 both vastly outperform your precious Galaxy Nexus.

First I want to say that the Nexus will be on Verizon. They will not pass it up

On to the OP, You have waited this long, I would see what happens this month with all the announcements on the horizon. If you do not want to wait, they you cannot do any worse than they SGSIII

I don't think it's a matter of Verizon passing it up--moreso, it's a matter of Google not giving them an opportunity to accept/reject.

I work for a carrier and honestly man even if a new phoenw ere to come out that is better than the S3 the development community won't jump on it right away.....The s3 still is the early stages of cm10 and cm9 got really far but right now the GS3 is the best deal its such a good device rooted or unrooted....I personally dont want a nexus only because it doesnt support sd cards but im sure it will be really nice.

Nexus devices always lead in development. That'll never not be the case. If rooting/flashing is what you're into, then go Nexus. The GNex has unparalleled development and it's only increasing. But that's what happens when you have an AOSP device.

For the OP, if you're paying full retail, I simply don't believe the GS3 is worth it over other devices. Is it worth $100 more? Perhaps. But if you look around, you can get the GNex for $350...and IMO...that gap at full retail prices is wholly unjustified.

There may be numerous nexi this year if reports are true so no telling if one of them is coming to vzw. Problem with vzw is that you need root for timely updates.

The galaxy s3 looks to have plenty of support from at least aokp which is one of the most popular aosp ROMs out, not sure how it runs as I don't have one.

Having a phone with such support though actually gives you an option of touchwiz and aosp which you don't get with a nexi. A nexi though is likely to have stability with android updates from near day one.

A new nexi is not guaranteed though, but I think announcements between now and the end of the month are worth checking out as the next moto and HTC may be unveiled for vzw but not available for a few more weeks.

A moto with edge to edge screen might be pretty cool. HTC hasn't been up to speed on vzw yet when compared to their gsm variants, that may soon be changing.

Tldr: wait if you can the horizon is not far, otherwise just pull the trigger and enjoy.

After waiting months for the GS3, waiting for Verizon to get it, following the whole shared data plans change, and then the locked bootloader disappointment, I ended up waiting. I even bought a 64GB sd card and accessories for my new GS3 :(

Now that the bootloader is unlocked, is it worth buying the Verizon GS3 today, or is it better to wait for the next Nexus out in 2 months (I hope) ?

The next nexus is a very minor bump in specs. Its still running the same old A9 based processor but with the clock speed bumped up by 300 mhz, and you now have a 8 mega pixel camera. That is basically it. The GS3 is still far superior in terms of hardware.

whoa whoa whoa, now your making stuff up. JB on the gnex only makes it less laggy. If you scroll through your widget drawer, you can still see it struggle to populate the widgets. The GS3 even on the "laggy" touchwiz does not do that.

Stop drinking the coolaid buddy. The Gnex on ICS was laggy as hell and can't even run live wall paper smoothly. JB just managed to close the gap to the GS3, nothing more.

While the S3 has plenty of support, it's not even close to Nexus development/support.

And the TouchWiz thing...meh. TW is terrible. :p

Ridiculous. You should wait until the next next next next next Nexus.

If you take the sacredness out of the Nexus... Ok.... The GS3 will probably be the most supported android device we see to date... Reason there are more people with them because it's the 1st identical Flagship Android device on every Network period!.…..

Now the Nexus will have everything first yes!!!! The nexus will run and is designed as Google intended.. Yes!!!! But Think about it Verizon will probably have the GS3 running JB before The Sacred Nexus.. Why? $$$$$$ Devlopers will work on whatever iteration of Android for the GS3 literally soon as it's ready as soon as the Gnexus or right after... why? Demand!!!!! #s don't lie
Again I have both so I'm not just saying it cause I own a GS3 I'm good either way..

So hell yes its worth getting

Well it's not just sacredness, it's stable AOSP-base--which the SIII does not have b/c it's not an AOSP device. The Nexus devices will always get a stable version of Android first, and that means developers will always have more to play with, and sooner at that. Don't underrate the value of source for developers :).

And the Verizon JB OTA has already leaked for the GNex. Not a shot in hades it goes to the S3 first :).

We are talking about the first phone to top iphone sales since it's release... Even when other iphones were in transition no phone topped their sales until now.. That's gonna push support alone millions of people having it!!

I agree... But unless these things are at the top of your list it shouldn't sway you from the GS3...

True that. But it's also a reason like someone like myself would never buy a non-Nexus device :).

For me, software > hardware.

Yea after drama with the Razr.. I will either have a Nexus or Galaxy S device.. I certainly understand... I'm somewhere in between...Like I'd probably own a hybrid sports car... Lol

Meh, the RAZR was never going to be a good long-term developer supported device. I know the GNex has "meh" hardware, but the RAZR had it even moreso. Then with the locked bootloader, stuff like that...well yeah, you see where I'm going with this lol
