Stock Email widget not working with 4.4 kit kat

I am using the stock email client with the stock 3x3 email widget on my home screen. The widget stopped working after my "upgrade" to 4.4. Tried removing the widget and then putting it back, but that did not help. The widget just shows older emails.

Any ideas for a fix?

Did you ever get a resolution to this issue? I recently bought a tablet with 4.4 on it, and the widget isn't even showing available to use. I'm curious if your resolution may help me.

It is working now with 4.4.2. I never did get it working with the older version.
