Stock Galaxy Note 3 Phones Only: Any Regrets after Upgrading to KitKat, or are you glad you did?

I just did the update today. Stock phone. I do have Fox Fii installed, now it does not work. I am also getting an alert message that says to "Check credentials" which says "A trusted certificate on your device is allowing a third party to monitor your network activity, including your emails, apps and secure websites."

I can go to the trusted credentials through my settings, but have no idea which one may be giving me this alert. Any ideas? Of course, I never looked at the trusted credentials prior to the update (or ever) so I have no idea which one to delete, etc.

Same happened to me. Only thing that made it work was to do a factory reset. :(

How I prepared/installed my Note3 Verizon KitKat update;
1.Returned to original Launcher (TouchWiz).
2.Removed/Uninstalled (launchers, widgets, games, some unessesary apps, ect.).
3.Closed all apps
4.Removed memory card and did a battery pull.
5.**Pressed up volume key, power button and home button simultaneously to clear cache.
6.Installed KITKAT update (did not move my Note3 away from Xfinity WIFI tower during installation process)
7.Did another restart immediatly after the KitKat installation restart.
8.I did a quick function check and installed memory card along with a battery pull.
9.Reinstalled launchers, widgets, games, some apps (ect.).
10. Did another restart. Went to bed.
11. Woke up the next morning and did another battery pull (for good measures).
My Verizon Note3 has been runing EXCELLENT on the KitKat update so far (knocking on wood).

I'm regretting a bit here as my battery is bad now. No rooting, nothing done but installing KK.

Did the factory reset, still not working. It is telling me to go to settings and click on the mobile hotspot. Don't want to do that because it prompts you to contact Verizon to pay for the hotspot. Any ideas on how to get it back working?

I had S Beam issues trying to tap and transfer photos between phones with the Samsung wireless phone back cover on my Note 3 with JB. Now with KitKat the issue has been resolved and works perfectly. The phone is working faster and more smoothly it seems to me. No issues whatsoever. The white navigation bar icons are a great improvement over the colored ones outdoors. Overall, a worthwhile upgrade for me and one that I like very much.

Galaxy Note 3 was sent OTA update for kit kat 4.4.2 May 17, 8:10 am after that update the phone battery started dropping, the screen started freezing up and lagging, home button no longer was working, wifi keeps dropping &/or can't log on to wifi, but worst of all I can not send or receive text messages, & phone call reception is poor and get more dropped calls in areas that use to be very solid reception. I did everything samsung and verizon told me to do, battery out and back in , sims card out and back in, empty cache, etc.... nothing worked! Very upset, can not communicate with my son via text messaging unless I make it a multimedia message and send via data, but still do not receive his texts back . . .the next day if I turn off the phone and turn it back on a few text messages will come streaming in . . but not all of them. My battery use to last a full day with heavy use and a day and a half with minimum use . . now it is only lasting 3-4 hours!?!?!?!?! I was told by Samsung that I can not remove the update but that they can "reflash the software" at one of their samsung experience shops (i.e. Best Buy). I called one of their experts and they told me that they will just re-install the update to make sure it was loaded correctly.??? That maybe it was interrupted during installation causing the problems. Nothing interrupted it . . and if this is true than how come the users that downloaded the updated via wired to pc are having the same problems?? Verizon offered a refurbished replacement. ., .I told them no way. I spent a lot of money and this phone was only a few months old. I WISH I HAD NEVER UPDATED TO KIT KAT 4.4.2 **SO Does anyone know if the software update can be removed?

Just an FYI, taking it to Best Buy and letting them reflash can help. Another FYI, I have been upgrading firmware to phones since I had a Galaxy S. I have had 5 different phones since then and numerous ugrades. Every time there is a firmware upgrade, I boot into recovery mode, wipe that partition cache and then do the reset from the recovery mode screen, not the factory reset in "Settings" on the phone.

Almost everything that is not working correctly, will be corrected with the partition cache wipe and the "master reset" in recovery mode. Also, if you do get the phone reflashed, do the very same thing after they reflash, before you set your phone up, wipe the cache and do the reset, both in recovery mode.

I always plan on and do those two things with every firmware upgrade, it just helps to get rid of all the junk that can get left behind from apps that have been installed and uninstalled and from the previous OS.

Samsung told me not to factory reset the phone. So I did not do that yet. They told me that I needed to have the update reinstalled on the phone.

You got someone at Samsung that did not know what they are talking about. I have also dealt with Samsung numerous times over the years, 60-70 phone calls over all this time, at least. The FIRST thing they tell you if you are experiencing problems after a firmware upgrade, is to do a factory reset. But again, they will tell you to go to settings and do it that way. That sometimes helps, but the partition wipe and the master reset is what needs to be done.

I have not totally reset the phone because Samsung told me that that would not remove the update and I would lose a lot of my data. I can back everything up and I started to do that via my laptop, however I am taking the phone to the Samsung Experience shop tomorrow and let them "reflash the software." If it does not work, I told them that I wanted them to replace it with a NEW phone not a refurbished one, then I will start from scratch.

I am not the only one with this problem. Verizon told me that they have been overloaded with costumers having problems with the update to kit kat 4.4.2, & that the update came from Samsung so it was not their "fault" . . but they have been just replacing the phones with refurbished ones. & several sites online have indicated that the replacement phones are having the same problems. Verizon's technical support put me on a three-way call with Samsung's technical support. We discussed it and I was told that Samsung would call me back today and then I am to take the phone to their Samsung Experience Shop to have them "reflash the software." Samsung said if that does not fix it then they will send it off for repair since it is still under warranty. Needless to say I am not happy about this. :-\ My Note 3 worked perfectly prior to the software update!

One more thing, when they reflash, you will lose all the data, you lose the same things with a reflash as you do with a reset.

Day TWO with the KitKat update and no problems to report so far. I have LightFlow installed and its working good with no effect on my Note3 and the new Verizon KitKat OS

And an FYI for you. Back when The Galaxy S update to Gingerbread, LightFlow started causing problems for people after the update. Over all these years on this forum, I have seen LightFlow be a problem for many, after each and every update.

Thats good to know. I will keep that in mind on my next update...Thanks. It seems as though there is alwasy a couple of apps that cause problems with update no matter which OS is being used. I try and scale down (remove/uninstall) some apps before I update to a new OS.

Downloaded the update on first day of the OTA. I've had a few issues w/ battery drain, but killing all running apps and clearing ram usually stops it and it goes back to normal. I took my phone off the charger yesterday around 450 pm, and at 6am this morning when I got off work, i still had 68% battery left. Granted I didn't use the phone all that much. About 2-3 hours of listening to music, checking in on FB, instagram, etc, and checking the time constantly. No other issues other than that.

Because of that annoying KitKat update "pop up" (I couldn't take it anymore), I decided to update last night, so far so good with the exception of the font change on the lock screen (can't change it), it's not really as disappointing as I thought it would be. Not sure about the battery as it's to early to tell the difference good or bad. Overall everything seems to be quicker, I like the idea of the white battery indicator on the notification bar and other little enhancements the new KitKat brings, but I'm not sure this update warrented a new OS name change. I will definetly be monitoring my Note3 closely in the days to come as with any new OS update on any device. YES, I'm glad I finally updated. So far I haven't had any of the problems with the KitKat update that I have read about and I hope the problems remain dormant.

Okay, User ERROR. I figured out how to change the Lock Screen Font....LOL

Have Foxfi so I will wait for awhile

FoxFi works with 4.4 on the Note 3. I'm not sure if it's a different build of FoxFi (I only installed FoxFi after 4.4). Uninstall FoxFi, do the upgrade, reinstall FoxFi.

can we change just the font on the lock screen and leave the system font as is? If so, could you please help point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Is there a way to skip the OTA update other than repeatedly deferring it. I want to be able to wait for 4.4.3. Thanks!
