I was wondering do you guys use the stock app when texting and sending mms messages or do you use an app from the Android market. If you use one from the Android market which one do u use?

Go SMS is pretty good, I had some issues with handcent burning thru my battery in 6 hours. yodatom suggested it, works well.

If you dont mind me asking what is so bad about the stock messaging program

Admittedly for me, nothing really. But I have this new shiny phone and access to tons and tons of shiny new apps, and an inability to keep myself from playing around. First android device I have ever had and am new to all this app stuff. Loving it tho. Loving it.

The first thing that took me away from stock was that awful and plain UI, so I went to Handcent because I'd heard a lot about it. After I started getting in to custom ROMs, I needed a way to back up my texts to carry over to the next one, so I landed on GoSMS. I really like it, and I would never switch back to either stock or Handcent.

Go sms for me. Stock app looks plain and I don't like how the pictures show up in a slide show.

When I rooted my old eris the stock android messaging app didnt feel right, because I liked the one that came with sense. I used handcent an never noticed any battery drain. This could have been because it wasnt running over sense, or just because it was a different phone. I liked handcent because it felt more like the stock HTC message app.

So I decided to try the Go SMS and my only question is it seems that the stock message program still gets all the messages as well. Seems unnecessary and would cause the phone to use more battery then it should per text. How can I get the stock messaging program to stop receiving texts.

Go into stock SMS settings and turn of notifications.

The only notifications i get are from Go SMS, its just the stock messaging program still shows all the incoming and outgoing texts.

Nobody seems to.care about this (except me) but you can send an sms to an email addy from the stock messaging app but if you try from any of the mp messaging apps (including go sms) the message is.converted to mms even though no media is.in it! Anybody know why? Go sms won't answer me.

It will they both will see them just, go in to the menu settings uncheck auto-retrieve, then stop the app in the apps manager that should stop them unless you open it again.

I never even thought of using a different SMS app. After reading this post I put Go SMS on my phone. It is absolutely great. It is exactly what I was hoping for.
