I have been reading different threads on this web site. I read where people refer to "stock message", I am going to show my ignorance, what is a stock message or a stock message app and where do I find it on the phone? Thank you from a Vivid Stupid Person

Not stupid at all... when people refer to Stock Message/Stock Messaging App that's the default messaging app that came with your phone. Not downloaded from the Market or via 3rd party.

If I understand your question correctly they are referring to the included text messaging application. It will be called normally "Messanger" in your app list.

Otherwise you have you picks of various 3rd party messanger applications from the Market like Handcent, GoSMS and many more... Many people choose these over stock because of the advanced options like customizing your layout, emoticons, colors, etc..

Thank you for all the information. I downloaded Handcent because of its features, but when I receive a text I receive it both on the preloaded Messenger and Handcent. Can I turn off or disable the preloaded messenger application so I receive the text messages only on Handcent? If so how.....

Should be an option in the settings on Handcent to disable notifications to the stock messaging application

just open stock messaging app, go into settings and turn off notification.

Thanks for the correction on the setting. Its been quite a while since I played with a 3rd party messaging app or messaging in general. I use Gtalk more than anything these days..
