Verizon Galaxy S8 Stock Messaging App and contacts sorting

Hi folks, this may be a simple one. I use the stock messaging app and when I go to compose a text my contacts list is sorted by first name. I also use the stock contacts app and that one is sorted by last name, my preferred method. I have looked at every setting I can find but I can't find one for sorting contacts in the messaging app by last name

I've had similar issues. Even the stock Contacts app doesn't recognize if your entry is just for a company and splits the company name as last name, first name which throws the sorting out of whack.

For a company, I use the organization rather than the name field.

That's what I use. Still displays it as if it was a person's name.

so no one has an answer? This is mildly annoying about the sorting, not the lack of answers

have you tried using Google contacts? it syncs with Samsung contacts and is a lot cleaner to use.
