Stock Messenger - Multiple People to One Person

Apologies if this has been posted and answered - I did do my best to find the answer.

How do you respond to a single person in a messaging thread? Say there are 4 people on the list but I want to send to one person only and also keep the previous messages within the thread for reference?

There is a 'People & options' menu within the thread which does display the people in that thread but there seems to be no way to only choose one.

Just break out a new message to that person. That's what I do anyway.

I have been doing that, but I need to keep the previous messages intact also.

Google Messenger App: Settings>Advanced Settings>Group Messaging> choose send a individual SMS to all recipients only you will get the replies.
