Stock - not *so* bad?

So, I've been playing around with different ROMs since last December, and finally had a nicely tuned setup with a slightly-tweaked version of Rubix, with LPP as the launcher.

When all of this OTA Gingerbread update insanity started last week, I decided to go back to the stock ROM.

I'm still using LPP - you'll have to pry that from my cold, dead hands - but I have to say that the stock ROM doesn't seem to be nearly as bad as I remember. Battery life is acceptable, certainly enough to get me through a day, and while my X isn't as snappy as it was on Rubix, it's still fast enough to keep me from complaining.

Am I just lucky? If you've recently gone back to stock in preparation for the eventual OTA update to Gingerbread, how has your experience been back on the stock ROM on your DX?

*My intent is to learn how people who went back to stock (as in, the official released, 2.3.40.MB810 ROM running Android 2.2.1 Froyo) and remained there, are feeling about that. If you're running Gingerbread, leaked or not, then that hasn't been officially released, so that's not you :)

I didn't root, but the stock launcher is VERY nice with GB ... much better than earlier version. After giving it a try for a while, I went back to LPP. Missed the LPP widgets, especially Bookmarks and People, not to mention the 30-app rotating dock.

Even with LPP in place, the benefits of GB's interface are right there whenever an app is launched.

I actually stopped using LPP in favor of stock.

I un-rooted, and am back to a full 100% stock experience and I rather enjoy it!

Its smooth, intuitive. And now? Rather attractive! I've even started using LWP again!

I have noticed the stock launchers seem to handle LWPs really well.

I ran stock cm7 and it was nice but I had to have adw ex because the stock apps icons are ugly so I use touchwiz icons.

Perfect example: the k9 mail icon
Swyped from my Gingerbread'ed Optimus S

I went back to stock as well but im still usin ADW. To be honest the battery life has suffered a little bit, but all in all its not to bad.

Stock with Gingerbread OTA is very nice. I'm also running LPP, and it's the best phone experience I've had to date on any device.

Really?

I've noticed it's about the same (if not better)

I used to do that whole XDA member minimalist thing before.

But now I am 100% stock with LWP and a billion widgets and my performance is on par.

But sorry that your battery life has suffered.

Yeah, my battery life is also excellent. LPP on stock ROM with plenty of widgets. I have the same extended battery I've been rocking since the fall, but now I can't kill my battery in a day if I try.

Im with you guys...in anticipation of OTA release, unrooted and running LPP with happy results...batt life isnt an issue as everywhere I go I have a charger if needed but still easily able to go through a whole day without having to charge. I do miss under/overclock and wifi-tether but oh well....anxiously awaiting 2.3 then its back to rootness.

I tried the leak ota gb twice before going back to stock 2.2.1 both times. Haven't tried custom roms but I am happy with stock. I can easily go a full day on one charge and have not had any problems with random reboots of any kind. It does everything I need right out of the box.

The leak ota gb was JUST ok in my view. Definitely seemed a little faster but the color scheme, particularly for things like gmail, looked a little washed out. Also, the lights on the physical buttons, aside from it being too bright, seem to turn on and off at different times...didn't seem to be any logic to it. My biggest issue, however, was the multi-touch keyboard. The buttons seem smaller and not as sensitive. The keyboard on 2.2.1 to me is as good as, if not better, than the iphone. I think the keyboard on the gb is a step back.

Unless there's some major thing that gb can do over froyo, I am debating whether I really want to upgrade when the final ota arrives.

I like stock Gingerbread.

Stock Froyo? No. I hate it. The dock alone keeps me from ever using it.

I'm also on stock rom and can't get myself to go back to any other roms I've used most roms and they are good but stock has what I want. I've also been on the gengerbread rom and I love the new blue look. Can't wait for it. I thought about going back to using roms but I'm very surprised how much I like the stock rom. It does what I want and does it very well now its not as zippy but still fast enough foreve me. I am using adw ex can't find my self using launcher pro. I like the Widgets but don't like not being able to just drop a application into the dock like I can with adw. I even use folders on my dock.

I'm running stock Gingerblur with the Go Launcher. I dig the way I can setup MIUI'ish folders within their launcher. I also setup the stock launcher via shortcut for my swipe gesture. Its the best of both worlds, IMO.

Stock ROM is great, although I wish I could have a black gradient in place of all of the blue.

I too am trying out GB with the Go launcher Ex. Unfortunately, no matter what I do, I can't seem to get the battery to last a whole day unlike with 2.2.1. I was able to get rid of the syncing problem by wiping the phone, hoping that would help with the battery, but no such luck. I am going back to 2.2.1 with Go launcher Ex and wait for the official to come out.

I did the same thing unrooted as wlll as a data reset and am running a completely stock Droid X and it is a lot better than I remember it being. It was a little rough on the first day but got a lot better and battery life returned to normal for me back up to 50%-60% left at the end of 16 hour day.(Motorola 1930 mAh Battery)
