Stock photo editing app changed?

So since I've had my phone the last couple days, I've been able to use the stock photo editing all without a problem. That includes editing and saving. But now it's changed. The layout and look of it is completely different than before and now I'm not able to save my photos. I'm not sure if I accidentally changed something in my own or what, just been exploring my phone since its my first Android.

I don't have a screen shot of it before, but I included one of how it looks now. Before, I was able to "scroll" through the changes like saturation, contrast, etc. The filters and cropping were much different too.

Does anyone know what may have happened or have a clue what I'm talking about? Suggestions? Thanks!

Did you change where your pictures are stored? If you save your pictures to the internal memory you can edit and save them without any issues. If you save them to the SD card you can not edit and save them to the SD card. You would need to save a copy to the internal memory. From what I understand it has something to do with permissions in Lillipop. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If I can save the original picture to the card why not the edited version.
As far as layout, your screen looks the same as mine. I have not seen any updates.

No, never changed the save location. From my initial setup , I had my photos saving to my sd card and was still able to edit and save. The saved photos did go to device memory though.

But it all just changed somehow. Not being able to save and the total look of the editing app.

It has to do with Googl's photo app if you installed and activated the photo app or upgraded your google plus to take advantage of unlimited storage offer, the Google Photo app's editor takes over the default camera editor's place the same thing happened to me and the only way I could get it back was to reset the phone to factory default and not to install the new photo app.

Thanks for this. I'll try a factory reset and see what happens. My phone is only a few days old and I don't think I'll lose anything important.

Do you have any other photo editing apps on your phone? Could be the default got changed somehow to a different app.

The screen shot you showed is the google photos app edit tool. When google photos app updates it auto replace the stock photo edit tool in Gallery. I think if you clear the data/cache in Gallery, it will ask you to pick when you select the "pencil" edit button. As for save, you could read the other thread. The only way I could save to SD card when editing with google photos app is NOT hit Save but use the ... menu and select "Save a copy". It will save a copy into a separate folder called "Pictures" in internal memory.

I deleted 'google photos', and installed 'Snapseed' its a free app from google that replaces the editing app on gallery and has a lot of nice features, the UI is complicated at first but with time you'll eventually get used to it, I hope this helps 👍

Yes, Snapseed is great. The biggest challenge for me was the UI; it took forever for me to figure out that up/down/left/right swipes on the photo were how you work with things like the tuning UI.

Does anyone in this thread know what the name of the original photo editor attached to Gallery was? It was great. The Google Photos one is really ****ty and worthless, and none of the numerous options there are that I have so far reviewed is equally useful, simple and quick as the original one was.

This same thing happened to me, Google Photos replaced it with their ****ty and worthless editor. I have uninstalled Google Photos now as a result, but still cannot find a photo editor that would equal with the original one, which was very good, useful and user-friendly. I would very much like to get the original application back.

I agree with you completely. . This latest photo editing app is real ****! I’d like to know who’s unemployed brother in law created this terrible cr(app), when there was a much better one on our phones. What makes me real angry is that they didn’t give us a choice of whether to “upgrade” our photo app or the opportunity to allow us to go back to the old one. If anyone figures a way to go back to the old app, please share. Thanks!
