Stock text message app/edge lighting

On my S8+ I used Android Messages so I never saw this effect before. When i get a text a small preview shows in the top of the screen and only the border of the screen lights up in blue. Was it the same way on the S8+ when using the stock messenger? Either way, i think it's pretty cool.

I use Verizon Messages+, I've seen that when my phone screen is off. There's a setting for it I believe.

That features is turned on when you have the edge lighting turned on. If you turn it off the normal notification preview window comes up.
