Stocks App

I check which apps are running on my non-rooted EVO on a regular basis. I consistently notice that the Stocks App, Telenav and Google Maps are ALWAYS running even if I have not used them. I force close them only to see them running when I check a few days later. Can someone educate me as to why these would be running (especially the Stocks App). I have enough knowledge to know that other apps pull from google maps but I'm at a loss for the Telenav and the Stocks App,

Thanks!

Yup, that's bloatware. amazon mp3 and a bunch others will also run in the background. That's why I rooted. I froze all that crap with Titanium backup.

I'm assuming that you are not rooted, so here are my thoughts and suggestions regarding the matter:

Stocks App - Go into: Settings > Accounts & sync and make sure that the stocks app is not allowed to sync.
Telenav - the latest update to Telenav (formerly Sprint Navigation) allow it to cache on boot so that it can start faster by allowing it some memory space. I have had the Telenav update since it was released and I have not had any adverse battery life effects from it.
Google Maps - there are a fair amount of things that can trigger Google Maps to be used, but unless it is active, it shouldn't cause any problem.

When I first got my EVO it was my first android phone and I was over zealous at trying to close apps that were in the background but I didn't need. You get used to it and realize that they aren't hurting anything and that the Android OS will manage the memory as needed. You concern is understood, but shouldn't stop you from enjoying your phone.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but on the above note, the first check box when you go into Settings>Accounts & Sync is for Background Data, which says it allows applications to sync, send and rec data at anytime. I have this checked on. Good idea or bad?

Leaving it checked is fine. That will allow Gmail and weather or any other apps that you want to have alert you of things rather than you having to open the app every time you want to see if there is an update.
