Howdy to all.. I have a few other galleries installed for my pics/vids etc.. but it's a pain using the camera and opening standard gallery and seeing downloaded clips sitting mixed in with my photos..

Is there some way the standard gallery can just display photos and recorded videos ?

Gallery will usually create different albums of its own. When browsing you can just pick the album.

Or you can also create a new folder yourself with the things you want. From Gallery, then just select that folder. When browsing from within that folder, that's all you get.

For instance, in Gallery now I have "camera," automatically created, "screenshots," automatically created; Aviary100 created by Aviary; and another folder that I created under DCIM as well.

On a PC, create a blank text file.
Move that file to the phone's download directory.
Using 'My Files', explore to the download directory.
Now, rename that empty file to ".nomedia". It is best if you have the settings on My File to show hidden files and file extensions.

Now, the gallery won't look for pictures in there. (it may take a reboot or something like that to flush out what it has)

The for the replies. .. creating an album doesn't hide/remove the downloads.. it still shows all files "in the gallery folder on the left as thumbnails " . I'll try the 2nd option when I get to a PC!

It's just silly to open the default gallery to show your stunning photos/vids and there's random clips of various stuff I've downloaded.. it's just cluttering up the gallery..

But I'll report back my results the again..

Download the quickpic app. It allows you to hide files and automatically hides folders from downloaded items such as facebook casino games.

You can set a password in case you have "sensitive" media you want to hide.

when you do this it also hides whatever is hidden from the stock gallery app as well.

Using this app keeps you from having to rename folders, and you can hide and unhide stuff when u want

Unfortunately, QuickPic app support is being abandoned in July 2019. Too bad I remember it working well. I don't know what (if anything) is replacing it.

Google Photos is the new picture/video display app (and has been for a few versions of Android).
