Stopping ad networks from hijacking browser?

I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo, though this has happened on my previous S4 and S2 I had in the past. Basically, when using either Chrome (my default) or the built-in browser, whenever I browse the web, periodically my browser gets hijacked by "Ad Network Performance" and leads me to Apple News sites trying to say I can win iPhones. My vibration function goes nuts and it spams as I try to leave, often to the point where I have to close the browser to stop it. It's not any malware that can be found and squashed as I've tried Malwarebytes, CCleaner and AVG. Using something like Ad-Block app does nothing to stop it. I don't want to use a different browser, if possible. What can I do to stomp this for good? It's getting really aggravating...
