Stopping the Kitkat Update through Titanium Backup

Had a recent episode where my phone was bricked due to having TWRP installed when the latest VZW update came through.

I thought I was toast, but got it fixed through a couple adb shell commands.

Now, I have 2 additional questions:

1. If I want to keep the existing stock rom, is there anyway to go in with Titanium Backup and freeze something, so I will never get the update?

2. It's a friend's phone and we originally reverted back to stock when SlimKat Rom proved buggy.
Can anyone recommend a good custom rom that is very close to stock and very stable. I know they would like to keep root and would also like to have hotspot enabled if possible. However, they won't want to update, so I need something that will be a good, long term solution.

1. If you are rooted, you can use Titanium Backup or App Quarantine and Freeze the system app named "Software Update MUC". This prevents the phone from self checking for updates and the notifications will stop.

2. I have stock, but rooted 11A with the hotspot hack so I can have unlimited tethering.

In 12A the exchange e-mail was not getting pushed reliably so I stuck with 11A. I've thought about removing TWRP recovery and doing the new KK OTA but I'm happy with my phone now and don't want to go through the hassle just to find something else not working right. My wife has a 100% stock G2 and did the update and hasn't really noticed any change at all.

Thanks for your advice. I looked around and chose Liquid Smooth 3.0 since it appeared to have pretty good reviews and not many bugs. It also had native tethering built in and I won't have to worry about any OTA updates.

Of course, if she doesn't like that, I'll probably go back to stock.
