An unknown icon that looks like "N" appeared next to wifi on top status bar. Anyone seen this icon or knows what is this?
The icon appeared after I installed and then uninstalled a phone cleaner app. I can't rule out during its setup I inadvertently installed something else (there were a lot of ads in the process of setup). However I did search all my installed apps and widgets, checked running processes via developer menu- nothing came up like this. I also run Mcafee antivisrus and it did not detect any threats.

NFC isn't a big power draw on your battery but it also might not be something you need to leave enabled all the time. That all depends on how you need it, or not. If you do encounter a lot of NFC tags in your daily usage, or frequently need to do direct one-to-one file sharing with another nearby mobile device with its NFC enabled, than leaving it on is practical. If not, you should be able to just toggle its enable/disable switch in your phone's Settings menu only when necessary.

Just for future reference, take note the upper menu bar in a typical Android phone will consist of the Notification bar is on the left side and the Status bar is on the right side. The purpose of each reflected in their naming, with this feature being related to your initial posted question -- swipe down twice to reveal an expanded Status bar, that includes the little icons with their respective, textual names. So when you want to the next time you want to identify a mystery icon in your Status menu, swipe downwards twice on the Status bar
