Strange unknown sender messaging app activity on my android phone

[Android Central Question]

Someone rang me. I texted the number later on, asking who it was. There was no reply which is understandable. All was fine until a few hours later when the text conversation (by itself) changed to having the name be "Unknown Sender" and the number not supporting replies. The number is still visible in call logs as a missed call. When I texted the number a second time it opened a new message thread on my phone where the number is not "Unknown Sender". Very strange. How could the first thread have changed on my phone?

*Later I also texted it again on the original phone and it didn't change to become Unknown Sender either. All sounds very confusing.. hence why I am confused ! Hope someone can clarify and help.

Could be spam call they usually wouldn't respond with when you text.

Welcome to Android Central! These spam calls often use spoofed phone numbers (i.e., numbers that belong to actual people who aren't the ones initiating the calls to you), so maybe the person who the real number belongs to modified their account (e.g., turned on Caller ID Blocking).
