Stranger's android wear trying to connect with my phone

[AC Question]

I was in a store today and got a notification on my Android phone to "setup Android Wear device" and prompted me to download the app. I dont have an Android Wear device! Of course, I did not download the app. But, can someone with an Android Wear device try to connect to my phone if they are standing close to me in a public place? Feels kind of strange and unnerving. I have Bluetooth enabled, but I was under the impression that my phone wasnt visible to other Bluetooth devices to pair, unless I was actively on the Bluetooth pairing screen. Thanks.

Seems you were "visible" to the Bluetooth device.. I never have any connections on unless I'm actually using them. Wifi or bt...
