Hi all. :)

I'd like to be able to stream videos from my Galaxy Note 8 to my Android smart TV over my local network. I know I can mirror my Note 8's screen using Smart View but the downside to mirroring is that the video plays on both the phone and TV.

I searched on Google Play but there are so many apps and I just don't know where to start. So I thought I'd post here to see which apps are the best tor the job.

I don't mind paying for an app, sooner that than be plagued by annoying ads that keep popping up and taking half the screen up.

If anyone can help that'd be great.

Many thanks. :)

Is Chromecast out of the question? Granted, it's more expensive than an app, but it's powerful and versatile for the price.

Hi @B. Diddy :)

No that's no out of the question. I've often thought of a chromecast. I actually have dlna servers on my PC and NAS all on my LAN home network and thats what I use all the time to watch videos on my tv.

My main tv is the Philips. I haven't had a video file which doesn't play. I have another TV which is a Panasonic EX600B but it's absolutely rubbish when it comes to media compatability so sometimes I have to just copy the video to my Note 8 and mirror the screen.

Maybe I'll end up getting a chromecsst. I just thought I'd see if anyone knew of a good casting app.

Cheers. :)

Bubble UPnP was a bit rubbish. It casted videos to my tv but some videos didn't play correctly.

But.... I found this and all is good: https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.androidauthority.com/how-to-stream-kodi-chromecast-881349/amp/

I used the second option which envolved copying an xml file into the Kodi user folder which allowed me to use a combination of the app 'Local Cast' and Kodi to cast to my tv without having the videos playing on my phone at the same time.

KODI seems to play anything I ask it too. :)

Hope this helps others in the same situation. :)
