Streaming music issues

I have three preferred ways to stream music on my S5.

  1. Milk Music
  2. TuneIn Radio
  3. IHeart Radio

For the most part, TuneIn works well. My problem is with the other two. Milk spends around 85% of its time buffering, and only 15% is actual listening. To say that's annoying is a colossal understatement. IHeart's problem is that it pauses after each song, so I have to manually keep pulling the phone out, unlocking it (the lockscreen controls only work around 20% of the time) and tapping play.

Does anyone else have either of these problems? I've resorted to MP3s on my train ride and walk to work.

So you've tried them all in the same place, right? And they're all set to the same bitrate/quality? That would rule out a data speed problem. Does it happen only on mobile data or on WiFi as well?

I haven't personally tried any of those 3 services, but I did notice that GPM All Access was noticeably slower than Spotify to skip songs and to load stuff. Do you have a subscription to those services, or would trying out Spotify/Slacker or another major service be an option? Also worth trying them to see if the issue is isolated to those apps

It seems to only happen when using 4G. On Wi-Fi there's never a problem. I'm not sure about data speed, but I would hope that the middle of Washington DC would have decent 4G coverage. If I stop at a light/crossing while Milk is buffering and try to surf the web, I can pull up any page. I can even pull up a Youtube vid and watch it. I can listen to TuneIn all the way from the train station to my office, but not Milk. I don't see why there would be a difference in the data being used between those two, but who knows.

As for iHeart, it works fine, I just always have to manually resume the next song. It queues up and just pauses and waits for me. It's really odd. On Wi-Fi, no problem.

And this is the free version of all these. I don't mind paying, but I'm not going to pay unless I know the thing's going to work.

Very strange. Has it always been like that? Or is it a recent issue? 😮

It's been like this around two weeks.

Have you checked their websites or forums to see if it's a widespread issue? There was a recent issue with some Spotify premium members being downgraded to free for a few days. Lots of users reporting the issue in the Spotify forums. I wonder if those services have something similar

I checked when it first started happening, but it's worth checking again. I may have been one of the first to notice it.

Thanks!

Let me know if you find anything. Wish I could do more, but at least if it's a common issue I can let others here know if it comes up again :)

This is an issue we've seen with several Android users for the iHeart app. I just wanted to let you know that we are actively keeping an eye on and trying to find a solution to this issue. If you'd like, you can email us at our help line and we'll be more than happy to try troubleshooting the issue.
