Stuck in system recovery

I just bought a Optimus S off Craigslist (I know, I know) that was in seemingly good working order but after I did a factory restore, it rebooted to the System Recovery and it seems that the seller had already rooted the phone. I have tried installing a custom rom from the sd card, which seemed to be successful, but a reboot just loops back to the system recovery screen. Any suggestions?

I can't seem to get the Optimus to talk to my PC at all. Is there any way to fix this without a PC connection? Surely there's something I can do from the SD card.

Is your phone running stock Recovery or custom recovery?

Sounds like a custom recovery. Which means u bricked ur phone. Its the bad part of a fctory restore

Thanks for the replies, but I think this one is toast. Now it won't even get past the LG screen. It's a brick I'm afraid. Thanks again for the help.

That's the reason there's an emergency mode flash.
