Stuck on sprint factory firmware

This is my first post but I have been a lurker for a while. I hate asking for help because I am usually good and finding my answer on my own but I am completely stomped on this one.

My problem begins with me running the factory reset while being rooted. I did this because I sold the phone on ebay and I want to send it stock. This caused my phone to get stuck in a custom recovery(which I found out later that I should have never done). I tried flashing several different roms and none worked. I found a forum that showed me step by step on how to unbrick a optimus s and bring it back to factory. I thought this was ok because I have ran sprint roms on the phone before and they worked fine except for the swapped home and menu keys. My plan after unbricking the phone was to root the phone again, boot into custom recovery and then load a custom factory rom. Now I am stuck in some sprint activation screen and there is nothing I can do to get into settings to turn on USB debugging. I don't know what to do and I need to send this phone soon. I can boot into the android recovery but I can't find a update.zip factory rom.

One other thing I have tried to do since getting stuck on the sprint firmware is to run the LG support tools and reload to factory via that tool. This also fails and I get a fatal error after it downloads the rom. I found other threads with users having the same problem and there seems to be no solution.

Thanks for any help I get. I have been up all night working on this and I just want this damn phone to work.

Is there any help on this? I need some pointers to help get me back to a stock firmware or past the sprint activation.

I have the stock recovery on the phone and if I try and flash a custom rom it gives me an error about it not being signed. Also it says the rom needs to be update.zip. I searched everywhere for a 100% stock factory rom that would work and I could not find anything. I would just root the rom I am on right now but I can't get past the sprint activation screen so that I can turn on usb debug mode.

lift3d,
I am not a android expert yet so I am not too sure what those tools are. I have been a iphone user for years and I got my first android phone about 3 months ago but I am learning. If the tools you told me would work in my situation, can you give me some more details on how to use them?

Thanks for any more help I may get.
