So I tried to use this guide to update to Gingerbread without wiping my phone since I was rooted on a stock rom and hadn't deleted any system files.

http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...thout-flashing-new-rom-wiping-your-phone.html

Everything went great until the last step. Flashed the SU file and then when it re-booted, it got stuck looping the EVO 4G splash screen for over 30 minutes. After I realized this wasn't normal, I pulled the battery and booted into HBOOT, I then booted into RECOVERY and tried to flash one of my recent nandroid backups. It starts flashing and fails with the message "ERROR WHILE FLASHING BOOT IMAGE!". I wiped all data/cache and it still doesn't work.

I'd do a stock RUU as a last step, but I don't think I'm there yet. Seems like a might need the latest version of CWM, no?

Any ideas before I DL and run a stock RUU?

Vital stats:
s-off
H-boot: 2.16.0001
CWM 2.5.0.1

Was the backup made with clockworkmod? Is this the only backup you have? Also something you can try is reflashing the rom that you were trying to update to..

I'm all good now. I PMed someone who had helped on an issue like this before. I think my issue was with this whole "upgrade to GB without wiping your phone" I ended up with an older version of CWM than I had used to save my backup rom. Got the latest CWM flashed in and restored no problem.

I think I'm just going to wait a while before I switch to gingerbread now.
