I have been around the forums raving about JT's Clean Rom and how it has eliminated most of the lag on my phone...

One of the areas of lag I was still having was quitting an app. I would hit back button and home button twice before I would see my Home screen.

I found this Kernel by geeknik over at XDA Developer Forums today and since I haven't had a Kernel since Voodoo (which I've disabled and tried to forget about!)- I thought I'd give this a try...
After all its called Stupid Fast!

I know it says test in the title but I thought I'd give it a go. And so far WOW it has lived up to its name. I start AND quit apps almost instantly!

After looking in our built in Task Manager (hold the Home button) I noticed my RAM was 190mb on startup! I ran about 10 apps to get them all in memory which usually slows my phone down conciderably...and its still zippy!

I have just installed it and only been using it for a half hour- so I will update this as time goes on to let you know how it goes. (I am running this kernel with the Super Clean Rom for amazing response time)

Here's the link if your interesting in giving it a go:

If you need to know how to install a kernel (ignore the voodoo parts and do the rest):

I'm having great results too. Unlike VooDoo this actually speeds up real world performance. The only issue is I had to speed up the drawer opening/closing speed in LP+ because at anything under 6 it woukd lag when opening the drawer.

I... Really need someone to point me in the right direction. I have Odin, my phone's rooted, I understand Terminal Emulator, but I the area I haven't learned anything about is ROMs and Kernels.

I found geeknik's stupid fast kernel about 6 hours ago. Since I heard about it, I've been digging through the internet trying to find some guide on installing Kernels.

Unfortunately at this moment, I don't even know enough about it to know the correct keywords to search, I guess.
is it installing a Kernel? Flashing a kernel? Popping popcorn?

I use RomManager from the market to install all if my roms and kernels.

Steps:

Download Rom Manager
Open Rom Manager
Install ClockWorkRecovery/CWM using Rom Manager
Download kernel to /sdcard/
Select "Install .zip" in Rom Manager
Navigate to .zip with kernel
Select kernel
Make a backup
Click install

Your done

Its recommended to wipe data and cache but I dont most of the time and have had good results.

Yeah however you do it your going to need to get Clockwork Recovery first. I updated the original post to have links to what you need.

Just flashed this kernel and it lives up to its name... big improvement over the stable non voodoo kernel while running the jt super clean

I guess the only other thing I want to know is...
How do I uninstall this and get my boot screen back to stock if I wanted to?

You'll have to flash the stock kernel back using Odin. You should be able to find the files here: Odin Restore files to get you to stock - xda-developers

I just reflashed back to the stock kernel myself. I was having force closes that I had never experienced before - in Beautiful Widgets, Extended Controls, the camera app, the battery was dropping about 10% per hour and I honestly didn't notice any speed increase over stock.

To replace a kernel, can you not just flash the kernel over the other? As long as it is not voodoo, you should not have an issue. I flashed a JT non-voodoo kernel over my stock kernel with no problems. Even back in my D1 days, kernel flashes were pretty easy unless you get one that does not agree with the phone. Voodoo just makes things harder in that respect. Avoid voodoo and you should be fine :)

Ok, I am a bit confused, I am rooted, running jt's supwr clean rom and I did a lagfix kernel from one of dirrk's links. Is that voodoo?

Do I need to undo that lagfix or can I just flash this new stupid fast kernel?

I believe that's pretty much the case. Just no one has made the stock kernel available through ROM manager, so to go back to stock, one would need to flash it with Odin.

Yes you have a voodoo kernel, if your using a Dirrk lag fix one. You would have to completely remove it in order to flash this one, other wise you could really mess up your phone.

So whenever I press the power/lock button after using my Fascinate, I've noticed that the capacitive buttons remain illuminated for an indefinite amount of time.

Anyone else having this problem? This does NOT occur whenever I let my phone go idle and it locks itself automatically.

If you installed the Stupid Fast kernel can you please play some music (and thru headphones) with whatever music player you use and report back to this thread if you are experiencing skipping/hisses/pops.
Also let me know what music player you are using.

Thanks

Subscribing to this thread so I can do this later. I have the JT Stable Nonvoodoo that works fine, but I'm always up for getting something better!
