Stupid GPS problems I can't fix

I read about GPS being an issue for 2013 7's, but wasn't aware the 2012 models were handicapped as well. I use my Nexus 7 exclusively as a GPS navigation device in my vehicle. It works fairly well, but it MUST be plugged into the USB jack on my computer in order for GPS to function, or even see any satellites per a GPS app I installed. Besides the USB thing, it seems to not like being in motion, and Google Navigation is always beeping and rerouting through any freeway interchange as the darn thing tries to determine where I am. When stationary, it can usually nail down my location to within a foot or so.

Anyway, I need a new 7" tablet for use as a full time in car navigation system. Can anyone recommend something that would work for me? The selling points on the Nexus 7 were brand new $180 price, 1280x800 screen, and fast processor. The 2012 7 is SLOW. Changing apps or screens lags a lot, lots of pressing and waiting, very annoying. Would like to get something in the $200 range if I can find something.....or have they fixed GPS in the 2013 Nexus 7?

Paul FIRST POST! :-)

My 2012 nexus 7 GPS works fine with no USB connection. I use the Copilot app. Try GPS test plus just to see if you get SATs. I really don't understand the USB thing.

Well, first of all the Nexus 7 (2012) is much slower than Nexus 7 (2013) and can therefore have some issues with the newer Android-versions....
But it could also be the hardware in Nexus 7 (2012)... What do you use the PC connection fore ?

The Nexus 7 (2013) is absolutely fast... I use the Sygic GPS navigation software on my Nexus 7 (2013) and I´m very impressed to see how well it works... Even Garmin can´t beat the Nexus 7 (2013) in possibilities and speed. Plus the screen resolution is only 800x600 on Garmin 7" against Nexus 7 (2013) 1920x1200. Funny thing is that they cost the same...
